I would think if you through in a prospect over the 4th round pick CAR might consider it. Otherwise just Brown and a 1st does not get it done.

I mean any of Toronto's prospects, Moore, Bracco, Grundstrom, Borgmen, Sandin, Lilgren. Carolina would want the them in opposite order and TOR would want to give them up in that order.

I don't think this deal needs to have a first round pick - I think it could be done with a second round pick. Faulk is not Carolina's best defenceman, he's a combined -94 over the past 5 seasons, and does not put up the offensive numbers that people think he does. If it were for Slavin or Pesce then probably a first round pick would be needed because of how young they are still. Faulk is a little over-rated in my opinion, but could resurge under a different system.

Liljegren and Sandin are out of the question, both have extremely high ceilings and Faulk is 27 and not exactly good defensively. I'd immediately back track and say no deal if you even mentioned those players.

for the extra $700,000 I'd rather target Parayko.

Make it Brown + Liljgren + 2nd rd pick

I think that's fair, and gets you the right shot power play point guy we all thought you wanted all summer. On the other hand, if your question today was "who can play defense better than Ron Hainsey" I'm not sure you've answered it,

I'll repeat my offer of Kempny and Stephenson for Marincin and Brown, who would make good injury replacements for Oshie and Orpik on the Caps' PK. Kempny, again, had a plus minus that was 39 better than Duncan Keith's last year on the same team, same position, with tougher zone starts. Then he blocked a ton of shots in the playoffs and assisted on the Cup winning goal. But Brown and Marincin have more PK experience, which is what the Caps need right now, so they get it done.

I'd bet Carolina would be just as happy with Johnsson, Holl, 1st, because they need goal scoring and depth at RHD, but wouldn't necessarily target Brown for his experience on Toronto's PK2 the last couple years. Washington's PK has moments this year, when Wilson's playing, but with injuries to Orpik and Oshie, and the departure of Beagle as a UFA, it's been really inconsistent... inconsistent enough to want to trade a consistent top pair stay at home defenseman.

If that is all it would take to get Parayko, I'd rather do that as well but its going to cost incredibly more apparently.

I have no idea where this whole Right handed PP Qb came from but it is absolutely not needed or wanted by TO. The run Marner and Nylander at the right point on their powerplays and couple them with Rielly and Gardiner respectively. They don't need any help on the PP.

I am all for that Kempny trade, I think it would be a terrific addition for TO at a low cost and potential high reward.

If they go for Parayko, i give STL these options:

Brown & Lilgren + top 22 (protected) 1st - (if not straight up 2nd)
or
Kapenen + Rasannen + unprotected 1st
or
Nylander + Bracco for Parayko & either Thomas/Kyrou

Could you imagine the number of things that would have to go wrong for TO to be worried about their pick not being protected. Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Rielly, Andersen and Nylander would all have to be gone for the season for them to be in danger of missing the playoffs. I think at the current stage they are in they don't need to protect their 1st rounders. I doubt they'll be picking before the mid to late 20's for a 5-8 years.

I don't get why a Canes fan opinion is required as some sort of seal of approval? I would imagine most Leafs fan don't want anything to do with Justin Faulk. So if you'd ask a Leafs fan, there's really no price they'd be willing to pay to bring in Jake Gardiner 2.0. Now, while I do think, ultimately, Connor Brown will be available at some point, it won't happen until the draft. And as I've mentioned countless times before, I think you'd have to blow the Leafs away on a deal for them to give up their 1st round draft pick, regardless of how low or high it is. It seems that there will always be a place for either a Justin Faulk or Chris Tanev to Leafs deal somewhere on these AGMs :P

All hypothetical as Toronto’s cap issue prevents it.

Johnsson and Marincin doesn't fix Washington's PK. Brown and Marincin, together, have enough experience on Toronto's 2nd unit the last couple years, to get it done. Marincin's really struggled this year, and Kempny's been solid..... but I think Kempny on a 2nd pair with Faulk lets the Leafs play Gardiner and Ozhiganov on 3rd pair, and they end up always having one good defender and one good puck mover out on the ice. So I'm curious whether Carolina fans are about as high on Johnson.... whether Johnson, Marchment, Holl, and a 1st gets Faulk.

I won't comment on the trade value because I'm usually in conflict with Carolina supporters, but I echo your (and others') concern about adding Faulk. I like @Eli 's Kempny and Stephenson idea.

Right.. which is exactly what I said about them wanting to give them up the least.
