Would MTL make either

Created by: LetsTalkNHL
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 6, 2018
Published: Dec. 6, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
MTL wants LD for Weber. Maatta can be moved by Pens and would fit MTL. I think Pens would want a forward back.
Lehkonen has definitely been much better as of late, so a deal becomes harder to make.
Danault represents that French Canadian player for MTL and I do not know how Bergevin feels about moving him. What kind of deal can be made?

Danault will eventually get traded. Poehling will take his spot. Maata works.

Even if Lehkonen doesn't score he does everything right. his one best wingers that play 200 foot game. And for Danault his time is coming up it sucks but we have better players coming up.

this year. every scouting website/article or question you ask a scout about him, they always say he's an nhler. its just is he a 3c or a 2c. imo he's a 2c, but will play a 3c role, giving us legit center depth. he can join the team in march i believe.

I’d be hesitant to go after Maatta. For sure Lehkonen isn’t getting moved.

Danault is still a perfect #3 C you can play #2 C no problem, and just because Poehling is coming, I don’t think he needs to be moved. I can see Domi going back to the wing next year, Suzuki also starts at wing. And the Center outlook is like :

              Kotkaniemi #1 c
              Danault #2-3 c
              Poehling #2-3 c
              Evans #4 c

Danault will still be needed imo with a very young center squad. I get you gotta give to get. But can Määttä play top minutes with Weber?? And why are Pens fans so eager to move him??

The reasons I am eager to move him are because when Schultz returns, we will have 9 defensemen (6 LHD, 3 RHD). We'd probably want to move a lefty out. Dumo is not moving, Pettersson was just brought in, I see him staying. Oleksiak is good bottom pairing guy and Johnson will be hard to trade.. Riikola is the extra guy (our #7), so Maatta is the logical guy to move. Don't want him playing bottom minutes for his cap hit, so let him get time elsewhere.

How about this? Habs get a 2LD for the future and shed some roster spots + a C rental for the rest of the season to replace Danault. Pens get their shutdown C, a replacement at LD (and helps make salaries work) and a bottom 6 winger than can pitch in some offence

MTL Trade - Danault, Shlemko and Hudon
              FOR
PEND Trade - Maata and Brassard
