Based On JRs article on where the team goes from here

Team: 2018-19 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 7, 2018

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Jeremy Rutherford of the Athletic wrote a great article about what the Blues should do and I thought he absolutely nailed it.
1. There needs to be a big core change trade and ideally it should be 2 of Steen,Pietrangelo, and Tarasenko. A schenn trade is possible, because of his impending contract, but it won’t change the team enough. A Schwartz trade makes no sense because he has the worst value compared to his impact. He’s the least problematic of the core and trading him would hurt more than it helps. We should hold on to Parayko and Edmundson because they’re young studs (They’ve shut down Mcdavid and Mackinnon/Rantanen in the last few days.) If you can trade Perron/Bozak/Maroon you do it.

2. Wait until the offseason to hire a coach. I don’t think Berube is the answer and Quennville doesn’t seem possible. It would be an organizational disaster if a coach like Vigenault is hired. Armstrong needs to take his time and hire a “New blood” type coach. I’ve heard from Friedman’s 31 thoughts that a European coach is possible and that sounds great to me.

3. Play the kids. Kyrou/Kostin/Thomas/Blais should all be regular players post deadline. Kostin should get called up after the WJC and I’m excited to see what he can do.

4. Offseason: hope for Hughes, but make sure that you’re picking the best player available over position. It’s especially important to get the best player when Buffalo has our puck next year.

Actually I think it's pretty solid. NYI might still be a lottery trade even after the deal (I'd want top-3 protection still because you never know). Beau has been excellent of late and Mayfield is our lead scoring defenseman. Locked up very friendly long term. Competition for Petro's services might drive the return up slightly but I don't think the trade is THAT far off

I think we’re gonna be upset with the Pietrangelo return no matter what. I don’t think anyone’s gonna give up an elite young stud for a guy with 2 years left. The value of changing the culture and not having to pay Pietrangelo 9 million until he’s 38 make a trade like this worthwhile.

I’ve liked Mayfield’s game for a long time. He’s a STL guy too.

No player in the league above 28-29 is worth what we fans think they're worth. No matter how good they are. That's the sad reality the Karlsson trade showed us. But if your lucky a team may have a temporary attack of craziness and give you what Ott gave for Duchene. But that is not the norm just like the Hall for Larsson trade is not the norm.

Best case scenario you get a Hamonic type return, 1st and 2 2nd's. From a Flames perspective it seemed steep at the time now it's worth it as Hamonic has been terrific this season. Pietrangelo is a much better player so he could get that and a prospect too possibly

I think the deal I made is pretty realistic especially if we trade him this year. This is substantially less than the Karlsson trade (obviously because EK is better) and if we do it this year we could get more.

Yes it is. I also think TOR would be interested...

Anyway, what would you want from CGY for Schenn?

Valimaki and a 1st. We can retain salary and take pack contracts to make it work. I could totally see Schenn to either CGY or BOS this year. Most Bruins fans agreed on Vaakanainen and a 1st and that’s about the same as Valimaki plus a 1st.

Yeah that's a fair deal. Would hate to trade Valimaki but Schenn is a quality player. Would have to look at the cap but I think either a Frolik or Stone would need to head to STL along with the 1st and Valimaki.

Used to play with Mayfeild, would love him on the Blues... but his points this season are an outlier and you cannot use this small amount of success as his value. He is a little bit better Bortuzzo, not someone worth getting for your captain and a top RHD that barely misses norris contention every year.

McDonough returned two high end prospects a 1st, 2nd and a conditional 1st. Petro is worth around that

McDonagh was also traded with JT Miller so his return needs to be minimized somewhat. I see what you're saying

Yeah but at the time Miller and Namestikov was a fair trade-off. Pietrangelo also is probably better than McDonough.
