How? Don't resign Fehr and let Gardiner walk. This free's up cap for next year.

1. There was no way we could sign Gardiner anyway next year without moving a Zeitsev, Kadri or Nylander for non roster assets so Pesce contract will only work if we do the same.
2. After using up the remaining of this years Cap on Hoton's LTIR the 5.4 million in potential performance bonuses will carryforward to next year leaving even less cap room to work with.

How did Brett Pesce go from 3rd pair D in Carolina to 1st pair D in Toronto
Toronto established the cost for an expiring contract 4th line rental centre last year, it was a 2nd round draft pick
Brown is more valuable in his role than Fehr would be as 4th line C and besides Lindholm, Ennis & Gauthier can all play 4C, so it's covered - right?
