As a Penguins fan, I want NO part of Karl Alzner since we already have a bad contract in JJ, but the trade seems fair since Brassard is a pending UFA and Rust and Lehkonen are about equal in value.

I think Lehkonen is worth a lot more than Rust. Montreal is getting the much better dman, but is retaining on Alzner. Alzner can benefit from a fresh start. Brassard has not fit in too well with PIT, but playing top 6 minutes will be huge for him, and he's playing in QC. Danault could be perfect 3C moving forward.

Its all perspective. Do you upgrade on defence and get a better C (Brassard would be really good playing 1C or 2C and I know it, even if he has not shown it this year), to downgrade on your wing? I think Pens could add their 2019 2nd and take back a 4th? Rust can produce too but hasn't done so this season. All in all, I feel like it isn't too far off.

mtl doesn't need a C. mtl will be moving out C's next season. Maata is ok, but pretty sure habs would want someone with more offensive potential to play beside weber.dont underestimate lehkonen's value. he has an excellent 2 way game, and creates the 3rd most high scoring danger chances on the habs. he has a lot of value to mtl

MTL says no pretty easily I think. At this point Brassard looks like a lateral move at C at best, yet he is a UFA while Danault is signed to a reasonable deal for 2 seasons past this one. Rust is a significant downgrade, while being overpaid, from Lehkonen. Maata is an upgrade, but not worth the extra 2795833 in cap space over Alzner buried in the minors.
