Toews Available

Created by: Billy316
Team: 2018-19 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 10, 2018
Published: Dec. 10, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
so since CHI is rebuilding , is Toews available ?

we give up a lot but we got Brooks ,Suzuki ,Poehling and this also gives Hudon a chance to get ice time creating room on wing

plus we got Romanov , Ololfsson,Walford ,Ylonen and Primeau in our system while leaving us 6 picks from the 2nd -5th round (our drafting in all rounds the past 3 years has been solid )
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Toews, Jonathan ($750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
CHI gets an NHL ready Center they drafted ironically , Evans a top AHL Center Prospect with leadership qualities who specialize's in deflections and tip ins (much like Gallagher he plays close to the net) and Byron who's a Consistent Hitter , 20 goal producer ,with a Ton of Speed and is a top PK specialist capable of scoring short handed goals .

they also get a 1st and a 2nd in the most stacked draft since 2009 when CHI drafted Seabrook,Crawford and Byfluglien and this would give them 5 picks in the first 2 rounds .

not to mention they dropped 6+m cap in changing centers while getting a cost effective PK specialist Winger with leadership qualities while setting up your team for a short rebuild with the 2019 draft
CHI
  1. Byron, Paul
  2. Danault, Phillip
  3. Evans, Jake
  4. 2019 1st round pick (MTL)
  5. 2019 2nd round pick (CBJ)
  6. 2021 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
-top 5 protected
2.
MTL
  1. Morin, Samuel
  2. Sanheim, Travis
Additional Details:
PHI gets a LD and a RD prospect they can develop in the AHL

Mete's had 72 games under his belt with 11 pts and was rushed into the NHL straight out the draft and working on his stamina /endurance in Laval right now .

Fleury is our top AHL RD and has size and speed while being an offensive threat on the back end .

brought Sam Morin on for no other reason then he'll be popular in Laval i have no expectation he'll ever play in the NHL this deal is all about Sanheim because we cant wait for Mete and have a log jam coming on RD so Fleury is movable
PHI
  1. Fleury, Cale
  2. Mete, Victor
  3. 2020 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
MTL is ok with this only because we'd get Sanheim now and Brook on RD coming up now so it saves us a year of development minimum .

really ?

Toews with Tatar and Gallagher would be sick and the most offensive line we've had since Kostitsyn-Plekanec-Kovalev in 2008 combined for 90 goals and 206 points on the year .(that is the year Kovy lead the NHL in PP points )

10M per seems a lot for a 50-60 point C.

it is but he is a top 2 NHL faceoff Center and we're bottom feeders in the league in that area .

i think he's a good leader to have for Poehling ,Kotkanemi,Suzuki and the other players that already are in our system .

i figure if we succeed then it makes us a better playoff team , if not he's a great leader until he's UFA and we'll flip him to get assets back but i believe in the east he'll produce more IMO its easier to score out here as D isnt as tight or physical overall compared to the West .

if he Tatar and Gallagher can 80 goals between them and he maintain his faceoff dominance then i call it a win for us .

getting Toews just makes sense for many reasons for MTL and i think he'd help Kotkanemi become a great faceoff center

Toews would be an AMAZING fit for pretty much any team (as a player and person) but we can't ignore the fact that he has a $10.5M cap hit and a NTMC for the next 4 seasons. Obviously he's gonna take a decent package to acquire but CHI could really use the extra cap space too.

Like I said, I wouldn't be against acquiring him and most of the players you suggested I can live with losing BUT I wouldn't feel comfortable dealing our 1st round pick as part of the package.I know CHI doesn't want to retain salary so to help balance, they would need to take on Alzner. That is actually better for them cause they can just buy him out or flip him.

Price (31), Weber (33), Toews (31), Petry (31) would combine for like $35M (roughly 44% of our cap space). Obviously the level of players there is excellent and Habs can balance the cost for the next few years, eventually it's going to hurt us. Just some stuff to consider

Although I disagree with everyone of those trades, nice effort.
