Shed Horton's wage first....You don't want to carry 5.3M in overages next year.

Also, I don't think Anaheim wants to trade Manson

If any recent trades in the NHL are an indication, you gotta give to get. You don’t give up enough for what you get

Value for Manson isn't there, spare pieces and a first 3 drafts from now doesn't get you a top 4 Dman, That's besides the fact that the Ducks can't afford to move Manson, especially with Fowler out there isn't a player we have that can fill his role. Also the Ducks are looking to add another D, not trade one away.

No need to shed Horton. When on LTIR, he does not count against the cap. There is no need to trade him at all. Leafs can eat his salary no problem.

OK then....Trade 5.2M out.....Toronto doesn't have enough cap space for these trades

If only it were that easy. Next year will be tricky cap wise for sure.

Thats my point...Thx to the high cap hit of Nylander's, its basically impossible for Toronto to add this year.

This year there is no issue, they have a tonne of cap space - even with Nylander. Next year is the problem.

Overages plus the bonuses are more than the cap space....Doesn't work too well

I wouldn't mind adding Boyle back as a deadline addition again. Devils seem down and out this year so I imagine he'll be available and I'd much rather him as a 4c than Gauthier.

The manson trade isn't really fair, IMO. Mostly a 1st rounder and a bunch of spare parts for a solid RHD man...but who knows.

I'm still uncertain how much cap room the leafs actually have this year. I think it's more important that they save at least $3.7m in cap space to ensure they can pay the Marner and Matthews bonuses on this year's cap instead of carrying it over.

From what I can tell (https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/teams/toronto-maple-leafs/transactions/), Horton has not been placed on LTIR yet this year...so his number is currently counting against the cap as is $2.55m in performances bonuses that got carried over from last year. I would think they could put Horton on LTIR to create cap space if they need to make an addition at the deadline...I'm just uncertain of what that cap space is now, what it could be...and how that affects bonus carryover for next year.

Ltir can not be used to pay performance bonuses.

I'm aware, never said it could. I just said that the leafs have lots of cap space this year and there is no advantage to trade Horton's contract as he is on LTIR and does not count against the cap when hes placed on LTIR.
