That is so brutally bad for the Leafs... An expiring contract in Eberle, two years of Pietrangelo, and LWer Maroon who has scored ONE goal in 23 games and lovely minus 15.
For six years of Nylander, expiring contract of Hainsey, maybe the Leafs best prospect Sandin who might be Gardiner's replacement next year and two first rounders.

The Athletic thinks Sandin is nothing special and it’s pretty clear that a) the leafs don’t need Nylander and b) the RHD is the Achilles heal

How about:
Islanders: Taresenko, Zaitsev, Maroon
Toronto: Pietrangelo, Aho
Blues: Sandin, 1 NYI first, Ho-Sang, Kapanen, Mayfield, Wilde

Smaller pieces could be added for any team.

Sandin I think will be a very good middle pair guy who can log pretty big minutes and be a good puck mover. RHD isn't an achilles heal, they don't have 1 issue that will prevent success. They could use a guy to play with Rielly but its not a huge problem. The Leafs wouldn't be the 2nd best team in the NHL if they had a major hole/achilles heal issue.

Well if the athletic said it then it must be true.... sandin right now is our best prospect. I’ve only watched about 6 or 7 games with him after he came back from injury but he looks very good for an 18 yr old in the ahl. Rosen has looked a bit better but he is also 24.

Wheeler published his Nov Prospect Rankings for the Leafs and Sandin was number 1... Pronman probably doesn't like Sandin because Pronman has a (slightly ridiculous) preference for a few traits: he tends to favor small, swift forwards that can make high-level / flashy plays... basically if the guy doesn't have the potential to be a bona fide superstar, Pronman won't rank him high. Sandin isn't going to be a superstar but he's looking like a really good d-man.

Too bad about Durzi. Leafs sent him back to OHL to get big minutes, Then he got injured in game 9 and is still out. The top three Sandin, Lijegren, Grundstrom look like NHLers.

That's kinda ridiculous to say the Leafs don't need Nylander. Even if they don't there is no reason to give him away....he has trade value. It's like saying the Isles aren't going to make the playoffs, they should just give their players away. Despite rumours the Leafs RHD is not bad. A team does is as high in the standings as the Leafs with poor dmen.
Many Marlie games are on TV and the Marlie games are easy to attend. So Leaf fans can be objective as to their prospects as any fan base. Sandin definitely looks like an NHLer.

The Leafs were just as good without Nylander as they are with Nylander. He’s the perfect trade chip.

Pronman doesn’t like him, and just looking at his history, he’s very often correct. I’ll side with him here

I agree with he's a perfect trade chip, especially after July 1, when the actual $$$$$ cost is 6.14m for five years. Leafs are probably better with him this seasons unless the. Leafs receive a fair return. Next summer his trade value is probably the highest, and the Leafs might need to offload his. 7m cap hit.
