Says who? He's been absolutely solid playing the last 3rd of last season and the first few games since being off of IR this season; which is why he's bounced between 1st line and 2nd line. Doubt you watch enough Hawks games to know this and are judging purely on stats and the few times you've watched him play.

Chicago is a last place team and Murphy isn't helping them much.

LMAO...he's only played the last 3 games this year after back surgery in August and look terrific...your original comment followed by this one is the ignorance I spoke of in my original reply. Also noticed you made a team a few days ago acquiring Tanev from Van...do you really think Tanev is a better or that much better option then Murphy? If so, then again, you don't know Murphy.

Dude, they guy's career high in points is 17. You know this proposed trade is an absolute steal of a deal for Chicago. Kapanen is on pace for over 50 points and is 22. A potential 30 goal scoring winger is worth a hell of a lot more than Murphy. You know this as well. At least be honest when proposing a completely 1 sided deal.

I think Kapanen is overrated but I agree that this is a very one-sided trade. Murphy was supposed to be the next Hjalmerson but hasn't quite lived up to that. He was in and out of the lineup last year and feel it will be the same this year too

He wears a Leafs jersey, so half the people here are going to call him overrated.

It doesn't matter what team he plays on, any player that u put next to superstars will most likely succeed

It's hard to trade Murphy right now because no team is going to give him "fair value". I put that in quotes because he's a pretty good Dman and you're right that he's supposed to replace Hammer, but coming back from a back surgery is a big deal. I just don't see him getting dealt at all this year. Let's see how he plays...and for all the 3 games i like what i see...then evaluate in the off season.

Firstly, this is simply a offseason trade for Kap's rights; this does not happen during the season which again makes it just for Kapps RFA rights. Everyone knows TOR is going to have to give up either Kap or Nylander in the offseason and bring in someone on the right side Dm so this is just trading for his rights. Kap is good, but his numbers are way inflated but now that Nylander is back you are going to see his numbers come back down to Earth. He is a 20 goal scorer and 40 point producer roughly IMO.

Murphy came into his own the last 3rd of last season. He looked really good playing 1st and 2nd line minutes and the 3 games this year he is playing well. If he keeps the pace up of his last 30 games (last year and 3 this year) he is certainly a 2nd liner and has value. Behind Keith and Jokiharju, Murphy is our 3rd best defender but Hawks also have Boqvist coming up next year or Ian Mitchell or both making Murphy a stop gap for this season only.

    2 stars?

Yes, this is an offseason move. Back surgery means a lot of different things; I've had two of them. Could be minor, which considering he's back in 3 months most certainly is.

This is true, although Kapanen still looks great next to Kadri. I will say though that much of his praise I over inflated. He's a very good play but he's not an elite one.

Depends, trading his RFA rights in the offseason with no contract isn't going to net the same as being under contract. That said, Hawks can throw in a 3rd rounder if needed.
