Backes

Created by: matt59
Team: 2018-19 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 11, 2018
Published: Dec. 14, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Steen's production has been better but the contract still isn't great and the alleged locker room problems involving steen are probably worth the minimal cap difference between the two, since it should still be STLs intention to win within the next few years.

Backes contract is a year longer I believe... just get rid of Steen dont bring back Backes its too late now, we should have kept him over Steen back when their contracts were given out.

contracts are both 3 years fwiw and same age. and agreed that in hindsight backes should have remained over steen.

fair enough, if we have to have one of them for the last year I would rather have Backes but yeah just think its pointless to trade for him now.

Yep. And I understood the decision at the time, and it actually made sense. Keep the 2-way forward over the power forward as they'll decline differently. And move Backes so we can turn a new leaf after some unfortunate playoff collapses. It all looked good, but now we realize that we lost a lot of leadership and identity. TBH (in hindsight) the best idea might've been to let both of them walk.

It definitely seemed like a bad contract that Backes signed the moment he signed it, and it still is today. With the benefit of hindsight letting both walk and using the cap space elsewhere would've been best probably.
