Pair of trades with STLPHI

Created by: KristoferKlith
Team: 2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 14, 2018
Published: Dec. 14, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
PHI Trade: Pending UFA swap while meeting apparent organizational needs. Philly gets a top 4 LHD to slot behind Proverov while fixing the log jam on the right side. Leafs get the Power Forward everyone says they need to play with Kadri on the third line. Adda even more pop to the best top 9 in the league. Pending RFA's swap as well with Kapanen going to his dad's old team to bring some youth/speed to the right side of Philly's top 6 with them looking to the future. Sanheim gets an opportunity he wasn't getting in Philly in a top 4 role behind the big guy in the next trade. Both teams win and draft picks could be added either way to get this done if need be.

STL Trade: Leafs get that top 2 RHD the organization has coveted for a decade now, while also ridding them selves of an overpayment, but useful RHD in Zaitsev, and Connor Brown who will play in the top 9 in STL. Soshnikov also returns for forward depth and to help the Marlies Calder Cup run. Blues also get a first round pick which they lacked this year, as well as a there own 4th rounder back as they most likely look to the future with where they sit in the standings. Leafs also toss them a 2nd in 2020 for taking on the Zaitsev deal. Leafs get there guy and the Blues look to get younger and future resources for a guy who may have left them in a year and a half.

Other interesting note is that Leafs stay the same cap wise for this year which should allow them to have enough cap space bto avoid any bonus overage penalties for next year from the big boys. Cap situation would look a lot more manageable. If they can find the right deals for Matthews and Marner. Sanheim potentially becomes an issue to sign but may be able to get under a bridge deal. Moore also gets the Call-Up as the Marlies left side is deep!

That St. Louis trade is no where close. I do like the philly trade though. Well sort of... not a big fan of Simmonds. If we did Kappy and gardiner for sanheim I would be okay. I think that is closer to something they would except anyway.

Okay so what changes do you make? Let them keep the third and add a conditional pick if he resigns like a first or second in 2021 is really the only changes I would do. Could add Liljegren but would prefer not to and the picks would have to be adjusted I would think.

Are you dumb? Kapanen is not the type of player you give up for a half season rental.

and Sanheim and Dermott are very comparable. why give up a guy who's one of the fastest players in the league for a guy who's similar to what they already have and half a season rental in Simmonds? It makes no sense.

Top 6 forward top prospect and a 1st is what they would be looking for.

And that is for just petro

It’s not my agm so hakuna your tatas... Personally I would rather keep Kappy and go with what we have on D. That has always been my stance.

But for the record if we could get 6 guys like dermott I would be happy... would two guys like marner or mathews be bad?
