Schneider has now lost 18 consecutive starts (0-15-3). He hasn't won a game in over 50 weeks (12/23/17). He allows terrible goals and looks slow in net. But he carries a cap hit of $6M through the 2021-22 season. Clearly they can't trade him at this point. Should they buy out the last 3 years of his contract after this season? Maybe place him on waivers immediately and hope he gets his game together in the AHL. They need to act quickly though. Schneider has clearly lost all confidence. I believe that he's only played one game this year in which he posted a save % of greater than .900 and many of his games have been below .850. If anyone out there has any thoughts on Schneider or any other ideas on how the Devils can improve please share them with me.

My 3rd option in the poll was to place Schneider on Waivers and send him down to Binghampton of the AHL when nobody claims him. I realize this is a tough move for an organization to make to one of their highest paid players and one of their best players since he arrived from VAN, but the season is clearly on the line. They need a #2 who actually gives them a chance to win hockey games. He's gotta go...in my opinion. At least for now.

Nobody, even CAR and PHI will risk claiming Schneider on waivers if the Devils attempt to send him down. His cap hit is too substantial to take a flyer on.

Buy him out at the end of the season. It only costs 2 M $ a season for six years to do so and the Devils have A LOT of cap space

Clearly his days are numbered in NJ at this point.

It's a shame what's happened to Schneider. He was always one of my favorite goalies, and to see him go from an upcoming, elite, Vezina-caliber goalie to this poor sieve is just sad.

I can't help but think how much better off they'd be with Horvat, Nico, Zajac, and Boyle as their 4 Centers. No way he has an abdominal injury. Ray Shero had 2 options: IR or Waivers. He chose to respect Schneider's dignity.

I think it's a possibility that Schneider will never again play a significant role as a Devil. If Blackwood can step up Schneider is done. Maybe they can use their extra cap space to pursue Mark Stone in free agency.
