I'd rather just keep JFK. JFK has .21 Goals per game and Coyle has .16 GPG, so it's not that big of an upgrade to bring in someone who costs more and becomes an UFA in a season and a half even though he does have more assists. If you like advanced stats JFK has .14 Goals Created and Coyle has .17, so again this isn't really that big of an upgrade at all. I'd even argue that JFK will end up nearly the same offensively but better defensively and he's played well thus far.

If the deal was for Senyshyn and that package I'd probably do it because I don't think Senyshyn will impact the NHL team this season and he's been up and down in the AHL.

Can't see MIN taking on Backes contract. Can't see Boston moving on from JFK since he's playing well with the other kids. I also wouldn't trade Senyshyn like @Breakaway mentioned, at least not for someone as run of the mill as Coyle.

Seny has picked up his game at Prov as of late. Scoring 4 goals in 5 games. I doubt he ever becomes a top 6 guy. But a decent 3rd liner is not out of the question. Which is all Coyle is.

Backes (contract) is a deal breaker for the Wild. The absolute last thing they need is another bloated contract for a declining player.

Yes but Coyle helps now and Senyshyn might never help at all. My point was that I don't take someone off our NHL roster to add Coyle. If you are saying Senyshyn never becomes a top 6 player but has 3rd line upside which isn't guaranteed and Coyle already is what Senyshyn might become; it sounds silly to decline. Backes probably has negative value worth a -3rd rounder and all that's left in the deal is a 7th so that's a deal I'd do. I just wouldn't take anyone off the NHL roster unless maybe Cave or a 4th liner like Acciari, Kuraly, Wagner or Nordstrom.

I see Backes as having a negative 3rd round value to most teams, so that leaves just a 7th round pick and 1 prospect in the deal. The only prospect they could accept which I'd be willing to give is Senyshyn. I don't take JFK off the NHL roster to acquire Coyle, it just doesn't make sense. Senyshyn is alright but he may never make it or he might just end up about as good as Coyle at the NHL level. It doesn't bother me to give that up for someone that makes the team better right now because the team has a couple Forwards I like in the pipeline in Studnicka and Frederic who will help in the future and the core is mostly going to stay. Plus theres still Bjork who's off the NHL Roster right now who I wouldn't give up for Coyle. At most next year the team replaces Krejci and Backes if they are traded, but Backes really isn't difficult to replace at all. Krejci would probably only be replaced if the team brought in a prize UFA and needed extra money who was already a replacement (Brock Nelson?) or if there wasn't a match for Backes due to the number of teams on his NTC.
