As an oilers fan, I just don't think he's even tradable. It's not only the 5 years at 6 million, it's also the stupid amount of it that's bonuses. It makes the contract almost impossible to buy out. Not to mention the full NMC. What team that'd be willing to take on that behemoth of a contract, would also be a team Lucic would waive his NMC for? He's settled down in Edmonton, can't see him waiving for a team that isn't contending.
He's on pace for 17 points this season, and even if he picks it up, I can't see him putting up much more than 20-25 points. The only good things is that Ryan Reaves got such a big contract this summer. I think that Lucic's physical game means some team may actually want him at 3 million. So maybe if we retain half his salary, we won't have to give up any assets at all to move him. But who wants to retain 3 million for 5 seasons? Teams with bad contracts like Ottawa, that we could potentially swap with, he probably won't waive for. It's just depressing to think about. I still like the guy though, really hope he can find some more success.
