Tarasenko

Created by: Eli
Team: 2018-19 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 18, 2018
Published: Dec. 18, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Can't activate Wilson right away, and end up having to trade Kempny next summer for cap space to Q.O. Burakovsky (3.3x2), but Djoos can take Kempny's spot at 1M, and it's better not to rush back after a concussion, anyway. If he keeps leading all defensemen in plus/minus and scoring among the top sixty defensemen in even strength points all year, Kempny's value might rise from about a 3rd and a C prospect to about a 2nd and a B prospect. He's turning into a really good player, but I think the team stays healthier, overall, by keeping Orlov and Niskanen together for another year.

This is unnecessary. The Caps score enough goals. But I think this trade would be fun, anyway, if it doesn't cost any of the team's top three defensemen.

This is..... not bad. The Blues would want more, but it’s definitely a place to start.

Funny I was just about to make a armchair gm where Tarasenko becomes a Capital.

Idk maybe Eller, Burakovsky, and Bowey with the picks in season to make the cap work. Stephenson is practically an Eller clone.

I think Jensen will go to you guys too (or Nashville). You'll love him he's really competitive and takes advantage of his chances. He'll take off some pressure from Carlson and Niskanen.

Okay.... first of all, thank you. That's the most positive response you've ever given to one of my trades, so if you'd like me to add something, I absolutely will.

How about I add a helpful statistical comparison:

Vrana 22 y.o. 9g 19p +11
Tara 27 y.o. 9g 20p -13

And how about St. Louis adds Fabri and Kyrou?

Thanks, Breezy!

Yeah, I think Burakovsky and Bowey are more realistic building blocks for a trade, given Burakovsky is once again in the doghouse, and Bowey, while he has so much skill and potential, is still so young. A lot of teams prefer older guys on their blue lines for the playoffs, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Bowey traded for a top six forward, to a team that has an immediate top four opening for a phenomenal offensive defenseman, as the Blues will soon, if Leafs Nation has any say in the matter.

Adding Eller lets you bring Wilson back sooner, but so would adding Kempny who, on paper, is as good as Parayko this year. I may have posted a variation of that, recently, and I do think it's a little more realistic for Washington than the above..... but Sam was not excited about it.

If you're going to play the stats game, people will bring up Tarasenko has had 4 30+ goal seasons in a row. He's had a rough year so far, but why would the Blues sell low?

You need to make it two 1sts (the later one being conditional upon team success) and probably still add a player.

Yes, and with that statistical comparison Varana, Stephenson, #30 and #60 is not going to get Tarasenko out of St. Louis. Amazing, isn't it? Even with that statistical comparison...

Because goal scorers usually peak between 23 and 27--so the Caps really shouldn't offer a 22 year old for an equally performing 27 year old, even one for one, never mind the cap hits. smile

Then it sounds like you should keep Vrana.

This deal hurts the Caps in so many ways. Vrana is developing into one hell of a player and there's no need to break this squad up. We cannot continue throwing away picks as our talent pool is drying up. The team as is is good enough to challenge for a repeat with only minor moves for depth being made. I wouldn't mind moving Burakovsky but leave everyone else alone.
