If Ottawa pick is 1 overall would you do it

Description
I'd honestly probably offer more, that # 1 overall pick could be everything for the Rangers, finally a superstar since the days of Leetch or Messier and one homegrown not traded for past his prime (one could dream right) Perfect # 2 center behind MacKinnon and Skjei to help shore up the defense for the playoffs.

Too much hype around Hughes. Yea he’s gonna be good but he’s not gonna be a Matthews or eichel or mcdavid or laine or anyone like that. He will be more of a aho

Even so, the Rangers don't have anyone remotely close to that much promise, you could bet on the prospects, but that's the same thing as betting on Hughes and I don't see the Rangers with someone of that ilk or caliber in the system (sad to say). I'm hopeful Kravtsov and Miller one day may become that, but we need a top 5 pick or 2 to help, it'd go a long way.

that winnipeg trade is horrible for NYR and not a fan of the colorado one either because nyr is already the youngest team in the nhl and moving 2 perfect young players that are between 24-25 that will be good for mentoring for 1 prospect that could potentially bust is not always worth it.

I get the bust factor, but that's the name of the game and a gamble to youth is one I'd make, I don't think you know how good Vesalainen is gonna be.

The idea of being able to draft first has, among other things, intrinsic value. Drafting 1st sells tickets and that player is an instant marketing asset.

The 1st overall pick has so much value, even if the player you'd get may not be a world beater, is still worth more than any sane GM should be willing to pay.

Well, you are giving away your best trade assets, a very good defensive prospect, and a 2nd rd pick for a guy that went late 1st, and hasnt moved "up" that much.
You are potentially trading (based on TDL return) 2 1sts, 2 2nds, Hajek, and other picks/prospects returned in the trades of Hayes (1st, 2nd, prospect) & Zuccarello (1st, prospect) for Vesalainen

Thank you!!! One person on this site who agrees. I think Hughes will be good but he is small and might not even be nhl ready to start 19/20. I see him as comparable to marner. Which yeah is pretty damn good but not McJesus.

I don't think that's nearly enough for a 1st overall pick. But history has shown us the team trading away that single pick/player almost always does a lot better.
