Flames fans had a really good point about this trade:

Why trade away a good defenseman when you are competing? If they were going to give away a player that is doing great in his position then they need something back that fills a role. Does Brown really fill a need they are lacking? I dont know much about their penalty killing, but maybe there. Other than that, I think this trade just doesn't make sense for the Flames.

Trading Oz for a bigger, meaner version of himself I really dont hate, HOWEVER, Oz can move the puck will and is growing more and more every game, I think Oz could be a better option long term. I do like the cost certainty on those two players for the next two Stanley cup runs though. But again, I dont see Brown getting it done.

Agree with Davisoc above, why the first place Flames want to weaken their defence. And the Gudas trade, seems to be the traditional Leaf trade. A third pairing RHD on a non playoff team is suddenly better than the top 5 Leaf team Dmen and somehow now is a 2nd pairing DMAN.
