Price seems more than reasonable on Keith. I wonder if the leafs would prefer to offer more in exchange for some salary retention.

I’d be surprised tho if Keith is their main target given the contract term remaining

Chicago should be paying to get rid of Keith's contract. 5 years x 5.5 mil for a 35 year old Dman that isnt elite anymore isnt good value and hamstrings teams for years. Only way other's team cough up legit assets is if CHI retains significant portion of his contract.

I saw a TSN video on YouTube about Keith to the Leafs so I just put my spin on the trade idea.

Ya. Lots of Keith talk in the Toronto media the past few days. Any half decent D-man potentially available will be linked to the leafs. I’d love to have Keith on our blue line, I just think his contract would be tough to fit in after this year

Keith May not be Elite but he is still very solid, and would still be the 3rd best defenseman on the leafs for at least the this season and next.

Getting Keith probably does mean the end of Gardener, but in 2 years Patty M will be off the books so it won’t be to bad.

I don’t see a scenario where they keep can Gardiner regardless. But they have internal replacements available at LD. It’s the right side that needs work.

Agreed tho, if the Leafs can get all their core to fit next year, there’s a little bit of breathing room available in 2yrs

yes but he costs 5.5 mil. Seems like everyone wonders how the leafs are going to sign everybody but it's not a factor when trading for keith??? I'll take resigning Gardiner over keith anyday. Gards>keith at this point.

Unless CHI is taking back Zaitsev and retaining salary this doesnt happen.

Plus in the trade I proposed they’d also be losing Brown’s cap hit, so taking on Keith would be like taking on about 3.5 million which isn’t bad for a top 4 Dman.

So how do you think TOR is gonna bring in any top 4 Dman without taking on at least 5.5 million?

I’d like to think they are willing to either take on a pending UFA at the deadline or trade for someone whose age/contract make more sense. As I said, I like Keith a lot, just don’t see how he can fit in past this year.

If Chicago take on a contract like Zaitsev in the deal, it begins to make more sense

I know that taking on an expiring deal would work, but Dubas said he wants to take in guys with term, now that could change, but that’s what I made this post on, I understand where you’re coming from though.

That is giving away Keith. Remember last year McDonagh was traded for a 1st at the deadline.

1. Like i said sign Gards. Signing Gards is better than giving up assets for an older Dman who will continue to decline quickly.
2. A top 4 D does not cost 5.5 mil. There are 53 dmen in the NHL that make more than 5 mil, and only 35 making over 5.5 mil. Signing a Dman for over 5 mil means they are a number 2, and over 5.5 mil means they should be a number 1. Bringing in a top 4 dman for over 5.5 mil is expensive for any team, not just the leafs.

I'm more objecting to bringing in Keith. Keith is no longer a top 2 dman, and if he is, he wont be for long. At 5.5 mil for 5 years at age 35, that's a bad contract. AGE MATTERS.

Youre better of spending 5.5 mil on Gards, or another Dman under 30. Your risk of decline goes way down, and clearly that's market price for a top 2, and even less $ for a top 4 so it shouldnt be hard to do. Plus gards > keith at this point

Mcdonagh was 28 at the time with a a little over a season remaining on his contract. Keith is 35 with $5.5x5 remaining. Keith has a bad contract, is older, and isnt as good anymore. CHI will have to pay teams to take keith.

Mcdonagh's new contract with TBL will expire when he is 35/36. Keith is 35 now. Age matters.

Leafs have no cap for Keith this year or in the future, Leafs don't have a need at all at LHD. As TML 1991 suggest. 5.5 for nearly 5 years cap be spend a whole lot wiser.
