Wild go Crazy

Created by: MNBassman
Team: 2018-19 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 21, 2018
Published: Dec. 21, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Wild are a good team and they are only ever going to be a good team unless they do something drastic and make significant changes to the roster. Unfortuneately, the "core" (Parise/Suter/Koivu) is mostly untouchable and/or untradeable...so the Wild need need to make moves with the secondary layer of the core. Here are a few moves I would entertain - either now, at the deadline, or this summer. What says you?
Trades
1.
MIN
  1. Juulsen, Noah
  2. 2019 2nd round pick (CBJ)
  3. 2019 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Can a Habs fan tell me how Juulsen is coming along? I see he was just sent back to the minors...
MTL
  1. Brodin, Jonas
Additional Details:
2nd rounder is whichever pick is higher, not both.
2.
MIN
  1. Larsson, Johan
  2. Ristolainen, Rasmus
  3. 2019 1st round pick (SJS)
  4. 2019 1st round pick (STL)
  5. 2019 1st round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
1st round pick is the middle one, not all 3.
BUF
  1. Spurgeon, Jared
  2. Zucker, Jason
Additional Details:
Wild fans: Zucker drives me crazy and I don't see Spurgeon in the long-term plans of the Wild.
3.
MIN
  1. Brännström, Erik
  2. 2019 2nd round pick (VGK)

BUF and VGK deal are both heavily favoring the Wild... dumb trades.

Read the fine print with the Buffalo trade.

Why do you think the Vegas trade is so out of line?

I read the "Fine Print" just fine. Top D-man, a first, and a filler for two mid value forwards. Makes no sense. VGK are not going to send one of their top prospects and a higher pick for an aging forward.

Spurgeon isn't exactly a forward, Zucker is a top six guy, and Spurgeon is a second pairing D man who can play top line minutes if need be. Risto a late first, and a fourth liner is more favouring Buffalo than Minnesota. I do agree with your opinion on the Vegas trade. Maybe Jones/Lescheshyn and a middle pick is a better trade.

Spurgeon is a top-pairing RHD...not a "mid value forward." And even if I'm not as high on Zucker as most...he's a top 6 forward all day long. So...a top-pairing RHD, a top 6 forward for a top-pairing RHD, a fringe NHLer, and a later 1st round pick isn't so far off...

As for Vegas...teams do stupid things at the deadline every year. IF they are still stinging from last year's Cup loss, they might be very willing to make a move like this. Especially with their talent pool of prospects...

Figured I would counter balance the bad rating. Montreal trade is pretty good for both sides. The buffalo trade won’t happen. Don’t see them giving up Risto but the value is close. Vegas says no but I think you already know that. My opinion is if you are getting rid of brodin then pick up gardiner in ufa. Would love to see him play for his home town.

I'm not a huge fan of Gardiner. He's an incredible skater and a very good passer...but not much of a defender. I'd like to go back in time about 8 years and switch him to center... What do you think he will cost on the open market if he gets there?

It’s hard to say. He isn’t as bad as he gets credited for. His upsides are great and really just needs to be paired with a stay at home guy. I would think 6-7m but to go home to wild they could probably get him for 5.5m.
