It's hilarious to me that people on here pay a king's ransom for Schenn and then treat Kadri like a 3rd liner. Kadri has been better over his career.

Who is treating Kadri like a 3rd C? I am just suggesting that Kadri is going to be the odd man out. I think that the league realizes that the Leafs have major cap issues, and are not going to overpay to get Kadri.

Worst case scenario you have to move Zaitsev or trade Brown not Kadri. You randomly overpaid and made a bunch of bonehead trades and still the leafs wouldn’t move Kadri. Contending teams don’t trade good players on value contracts. NHL GMs get paid a lot of money to find better solutions than whatever the heck this is.

Then you don't trade him and instead pay Matthews and Marner the appropriate amount. Matthews will get McDavid money at best. Marner won't get more than Kucherov. All these insane contracts people are giving these guys is too much.

I guess you didn’t notice the first trade which was Zaitsev. Additionally, salaries aren’t based on past numbers, but present day numbers. Therefore, Matthews will probably get 16% of the cap (82.5mil) which would be 13mil. My bad. I overshot the amount for Marner by perhaps 1 Mil and Kapanen by 500k. If you sign Kapanen for 8 years it is probably a good deal. But all those overages help with performance bonuses.
