Initial Creation Date: Dec. 25, 2018
Published: Dec. 25, 2018

Description
Obviously for this to be possible Marner, Kapanen, and Johnsson would have to accept a bridge deals and Gardiner would need to take a discount but crazier things have happened IMO

Gardiner is not taking that contract and what’s the plan when petro, Johnsson, Moore, Grundstrom and dermott all come up for new contracts?

I don't think thats enough for Pieterangelo. Also, I don't see Marner taking a bridge deal.

Marleau will be off the books and the salary cap is projected to continue rising which frees up 8 million to sign Dermott and give Petro a raise if needed. Johnsson Moore and Grundstrom are good but replaceable. The leafs can keep whoever they can afford and trade who they can’t. But yes Gardiner would have to take a discount to stay (although he isn’t having the greatest year rn so that might help)

Marner gets more, Kap gets more, Gardiner gets more.. Trade for Alex needs one more piece or an upgraded piece. The way I see it, Leafs need to trade Marleau to fit everyone in which I dont think will happen with that NMC. Which is a shame cause he probly retires after next season.

Kucherov gets 9.5X8 Draisaitl gets 8.5X8 but Marner gets more than 7.5 on a 4 year contract? Kapanen could definitely demand more but worst case scenario they could give him 2.25 on a 1 year contract.

1sr off you want to cap dump Zaitsev and want a 2nd this year and you give up a 2nd next year. Wings have zero interest in Zaitsev as we already have overpriced defensman, in Dekeyser and Ericsson. I do not see Wings trading for a defenseman as they have a few prospects in Grand Rapids looking to move up to big club.

To get AP and for Blues to retain, any trade starts with Sandin, 1st and at least NHL roster player.

A cap dump cost you something, but you beleive you can dump.cap dollars and get somethung to boot.

So add them all to the petro trade.... just silly if you ask me. This is the Burke plan not the Shanaplan.

the defence isn't any better, if it means making Holl a full time NHL players. add Gardiner and Petro just to short change marner and kapanen in money and term but long term.

Comparing Marner to Kucherov is pointless. Kuch went through a bridge deal and besides, because of the state taxes $9,5M in Tampa is more than $11M in TOR.

Pietrangelo wants to go to Toronto, so he;d likely take a small cut down from what he wants. Not much though, as this is going to be his last "big contract." I've observed some comments on here stating he wouldn't improve the Leafs as much as Parayko would. He's a better player than Parayko, but yes, he also costs more. Peitrangelo has always played his best hockey in the playoffs over his career. Toronto would, and should, be delighted to get him.

The original offer of Lilly, Brown, and a 2020 1st isn't off by far, unless you do ask Armstrong to retain $1.5 million. The Blues need a 1st this year. Change your draft pick to a 2019 1st and throw in a 2nd or 3rd in 2020 to retain, and the Leafs get Petro, keep Sandin, and become a final 4 team. The rest is up to the guys in the locker room.
