Friend for Phil

Created by: ComYog
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 26, 2018
Published: Dec. 26, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pens move on from Brass and bring in a solid 3c with cost control for a number of years. STL get an amazing piece of deadline bait that can easily be flipped for a good package and a slight pick upgrade to help pay for retention. The retention should be easily covered if STL is going for a rebuild/tool.
Trades
PIT
  1. Bozak, Tyler ($1,333,333 retained)
  2. 2019 3rd round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
Bozak can fill the 3C role for penguins, and with retention is at an acceptable price. He should have great chemistry with Phil returning pens to a real triple threat.
STL
  1. Brassard, Derick
  2. 2019 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Brassard hasnt performed well as a 3C but is still a great player with a ton of upside. He is also Deadline gold as a decent player who is on easy to accomodate cap hit and a UFA.

St Louis ownership group won't want a rebuild. The core is good, the leadership is bad. They will likely sell off unnecessary pieces to contenders, attack the draft and FA, get after it again next year. Hopefully with a real coach and system.

The base idea of this deal is solid, but retaining just to move up a few spots, isn't worth it. Even without the retain a better deal could be out there

Bozack's contract was garbage the second he signed it and I don't think the Blues would retain. Not for a rental and a pick.
I also don't think he's the answer for 3C. They need young legs. They need to get faster.

It's going to be costly to get Bozak. If Brassard wasn't a good 3rd line center here idk how much worth he is going to have as a 3rd line center in ST. Louis as he'd be behind O'reilly and Schenn.

Didn't St. Louis come out and say they are listening to trades for any person? Including Tarasenko and Parakyo? I don't rememeber if I heard re-build, but when your willing to trade your 2 best players, it sounds an awful lot like a re-build.

St Louis hasn't said anything officially. Other GM's have said the feeling is they'd be willing to listen to offers on anyone. That still doesn't mean they're trading them for futures and spare parts

Its for him to play as their 3C though, more for them to flip him at deadline when his value will be decent again. He isnt a great 3C but still is a good player, and definitely can be moved at the TDL for a decent package.
