Jake re-signs

Created by: cnb17
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 27, 2018
Published: Dec. 27, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I like having Jake re-sign but it doesn't leave much room for signing anyone else. My guess is Kessel, Malkin, Mattaa, or some other high dollar player gets moved this year.

Cap is projected to go up to between 82-85M Which should give the Pens between 8-10m in Cap room. If they move someone like a Jack Johnson or Olli (Not that I want them to get rid of Olli) they will have 11-15M in cap room.

Still have 7 spots to fill with $11-15mil. Still doesn't give a lot of room for improvement. IMO

Exactly. My thinking is that JJ would be bought out as I see that contract built up that way. Same money but in longer term and doesnt affect the cap situation while he can make money in europe in switzerland or so where he would be great and he would be able to get his financial situation together because we know what happened.. Also I think Olli gets moved but it would be a good good move for Pens. They would likely get upgrade over him defensively.

They definitely shouldn't trade Malkin or Kessel. Bye bye Maatta

Thats a tad too much IMO. I was hoping for like 5.5 or 5.75, but he performs in the playoffs

It leaves about 1m each for 8 players. It's doable but you gotta hope you have competent NHLers in those eight remaining spots. I don't like the idea of many of those other Penquins to be traded. Most trades are for similar money being returned especially for long term deal, so what's the point of a trade Tampa, Leafs, Jets, Ducks...might all be in the same position, trying jettison some money. Gonna be a tough market moving some meh players. Kessel is one player that some team that has cap and need offence might be willing to trade for. Carolina?

Yup Matta is out. Jake will get 6 or close to it most likely.
They have too many defense man which is part of the problem.

Johnson is not going to be bought out and he is not going to be traded.

Johnson is horrible defensively and offensively. He better be bought out to make room for someone who is on NHL level..
