The Leafs would never give up their top prospect and one of their best young wingers for a rental and a slightly better Polak. Going after Simmonds does make sense but not for that price.

I agree with your overall message but Gudas is not in the same realm as Polak. He's a good DFD.

They are very similar dmen but Gubas is more talented. Although he's a dirtier player than Polak. Either way I still say he's only slightly better than Polak

I guess the question for the Leafs is trading one NHLer Kapanen...for two NHLers Simmons and Gudas going to be of benefit for a playoff push this season.
Kapanen is a different player than Simmons, but is one better than the other this season? Is Gudas any better than Leafs current RHD? If even they is marginally difference, is it worth the years of control of Kapanen in future years?
Foolish to say the Leafs lack grit....you aren't a top team without grit Too often folks confuse size with grit. Yes Simmons and Gudas have size...more than Kapanen.

Gudas is actually a good DFD lol. Hasn't been suspended for over a year too.

Simmonds would be a nice add for the leafs, but losing Kapanen in the process seems like more a lateral move and a less controllable asset.

I’d think if the leafs packaged up Liljegren and Kapanen they could get a more impactful haul.

They have enough young wingers(Marner/Nylander at RW) to be fine with losing Kapanen. If the Leafs are going to try and win a cup, this is the year with all the players on rookie contracts due gigantic raises. Simmonds and Gudas help them with that and Myers softens the blow of losing Liljegren.

I just don't see him as a big upgrade to the Leafs current D. Also, he is very reckless and dirty. I believe he's been suspended 3 times and has several game ejections for dirty hits as well.

Not in the past calendar year. I think the last suspension changed him. Do agree he wouldn't be an incredibly big d upgrade though.
