Chris Wideman + 3rd Round Pick
5 Games
0 Goals
2 Assists
+/- -2

Alex Petrovic
26 Games
0 Goals
1 Assist
+/- -8

Petrovic loves to take stupid penalties + offers almost no offensive production.

Did Chiarelli just pay a 3rd round pick for a worst contract and a worse player?

I don't think this guy has ever won a trade.

Widemen is AHL caliber
Petrovic is a proven 3rd pairing RD, he will rebound with Oilers

How is Wideman AHL when Petrovic has worse stats all around? (He is better in most advanced stats as well).
Edmonton literally got worse and gave up a pick to do so.

Would have been nice addition on 3rd pairing to start the year, but likely still a good addition to a hurting blue line. Would have liked a Benning+ for Gudas instead

Nurse-Larsson
Russell-Petrovic
Gravel-Jones
Benning

Might as well trade for Tom Wilson, Ryan Reaves, and Brad Marchand as well.

I'm sure the Oilers would love 2 PPG wingers.. even if they take stupid penalties and few suspensions

Every GM in the league knows Chiarelli is in desperation mode right now and that he's willing to mortgage the future of the Oilers in a transparent attempt to save his job. They're gonna bleed him dry until he's finally fired at the end of another disappointing season. This is the guy who paid Lucic $6M AAV to score one Goal in the first half of this season. I know they're had injuries to their blur line, but their problems run far deeper. I also don't for one second understand why Chiarelli had to give up a 3rd rounder to make this trade.

We're all still waiting for Chiarelli yto make the trade that actually has the potential to make a difference. At best this trade is a lateral move that won't really impact EDM in the standings.

Won't affect them except the 3rd round pick is a good pick

And there goes the man that Florida protected in the Vegas Expansion Draft that costed them to lose Marchessault.

I don't see this as being such a horrible trade for EDM. Petrovic is the more proven player, is younger, and Wideman wasn't helping EDM at all. A 3rd is probably a bit much but its not like they got fleeced.
BTW Petrovic has averaged 21:13 of ice time in his first two games with the Oilers compared to the 11:23 Wideman played there.

-6 as of the end of the 1st period vs. LAK. I must say, he looked particularly horrible so far tonight. He's a joke. Take away the McDavid line and this entire team is a joke, especially with the injuries on the backend.

I keep wondering how a team that spends top the cap ceiling could possibly be looking at another potential top 5 pick next draft. I mean DET is among the worst teams in the league too, but their cap trouble is a result of 25 years on league supremacy and their roster is comprised of ELC's and 35+ year old has beens. EDM, on the other hand, has the league's best player wasting away the best years of his career on a perennial loser. And btw, guys like Petrovic are clearly not the answer to their deep, deep problems. They were em embarrassed last night vs. LAK 4-0. They just don't have the talent or compete level to beat anyone right now, especially on the road.

That's what happens when your GM is Chiarelli. Overpaying on every signing you make and losing every single trade you make.
