Nylander just signed for 7.5 a year. No chance Point takes less than 8.5 and could ask for over 9. He's already the best centre in Tampa.

I think Stamkos is better, but that's my personal opinion.

However, that deal is much shorter than Nylander's. Also one must take to account the fact that when considering taxes, $5,35M in Tampa is around $6,235M in Toronto, according to this site anyway, so the difference with Point and Nylander isn't that big... So comparing those two is pretty pointless. I also made a post regarding what would happen if he doesn't agree to that bridge deal...

I personally believe the bridge deal for young stars is a thing of the past. Point's agent is going to be looking for more than Eichel money and he very well could get it. Point is having a crazy good season and Tampa will have little to no negotiating power to ask for a bridge.

Forget this bridge stuff .. Kuch did it because he thought he would be worth more in a few years. At this point of time .. Point is MATERIALLY better than Kuch at 21 and already an all star.
I dont think people are understanding that there is potential Point may ask for well over $10M .. Eichel is GREAT comp for Point .. just pay it and move 2 $5M contract guys (Miller Kilorn Johnson Gourde etc.

And to say Stamkos over Point on the ice.. not rep .. is someone not watching Tampa.

Tampa actually has more power, no matter what if they can't come to terms, they move him, or they can let him sit for up to the next 5 seasons as an RFA.

Yes and no, they could sit him but no one wins that and if they did, I am sure his agent would pursue an offer sheet. Moving him would result in a trade where Tampa loses. They'll end up sending him somewhere for less than he is worth, just look at the offers the Leafs apparently got for Nylander. It was always some lesser player and a pick or two. Would you be okay with Tampa playing hardball and sending him to Arizona for Keller and a 1st?

First of all Nylander signed for 6.98, not 7.5
The reason cf has it listed at 7.5 is because it doesn't take account of the money lost from holding out. If he signed at 7.5 his cap hit would be closer to 7.5 than the 6.98 it is.

Also this is a bridge deal as others have Pointed out. If you want it contest him taking a bridge that's fine but at least read the description before you comment saying he gets 8.5 for a bridge deal.

Nylander signed a 6 year 45 million dollar contract. The math says he averages 7.5 million a year. The first year is prorated for time lost with is why the cap hit is 10 million this season and under 7 the remaining seasons.

Secondly, I read the description and I stand by my statement that Point will not sign a bridge deal (which is generally 3 years). Why would he? Kucherov was the last player to do that and I doubt anyone of that calibre will ever again sign for less than 8 years. Point will without a doubt can get offered over 10 by many teams in the NHL next season. There is no way he'll do the team a solid and leave around 5 million on the table.

and how P.O. would the fan base be at that point. Both at the player and the team. Especially when it throws their cup aspirations down the drain. Way to cost yourself your investment in all the other players while trying to win a cup. This is a horrible way to look at it. It's like killing your own stock portfolio.

I think players lose when they sign a bridge deal. It's only something done if you think you can earn more later by improving play.
If Point signs a 3 year deal he's 25 when it ends. +8 puts him at 33-34. His age, declining play, he's done. He'll never get another mega deal at that age.
If he signs a 7-8 year deal now he's 29-30 at it's end. People will pay up for him at that age if his play is still high level. They will hope they can get 5 years out of him but his agent will look for that 7-8 year deal and he'll get a couple extra years of good pay on the back end for his services. Cost of signing him. If he stays that good, it will be worth it to some team.

Cf has it wrong. He signed a 41.77 million dollar contract. The difference is the money he lost from holding out. Info from Bob Mackenzie,Dreger and literally everyone who reported the Nylander deal. If he got all that money then yes, 7.5 AAV, but he did not get that money, he lost 3 ish mil from holding out, and dubas made some of it up to him in an, which is why the cf page is skewed. If he signed for 7.5 AAV the 2-6 years would be ~7.5, not 6.98. his normal AAV is ~7.
