Whos a contender if they had Gibson

Created by: Turner33

Description
Just a fun conversation I had with friends the other day.

I think if the Blues and ducks started the year with eachothers goaltender the Blues would have about 20more pts, and the ducks would have like 28pts.

But also think of teams like
Calgary
Carolina
Philly
Vancouver

A goalie playing that good changes a team

Your theory may very well be correct. Ducks are right in the NHL middle in points. Right in the middle in goals against and but a very poor 29th in goals for. Gibson is needed to good every game for the Ducks to get points.

Columbus take a shot at the Presidents trophy if they have Gibson. They have an elite defense, and Gibson would be a Vezina candidate on the team. Philly would be a beast as well.

Yeah CBJ wouldn't have had a slow start and be right up at the top of the league

With all the injuries in Anaheim, if they had poor goaltending, they've would've given up pretty quickly

I think they should do a 3 year rebuild. Sell off Perry, Eaves, Cogliano, Kesler, and Silfverberg. They've got a strong defense and a deep forward prospect pool, so a couple years of retooling could turn them into a contender within 5 years.

FWIW - Carolina is, for the first time in many years, getting average to above average goaltending from Mrazak/McElhinney combination.

Powerplay and overall scoring has been the issue this year

4th best goals allowed per game, 17-17-5 record....smh

I do understand that. But Gibby is a whole different animal. Carolina seems to play some sound defense, If they could put extra focus on offense while giving up = or < goals against..... They'd probably be in the right in the middle of it

Wonderful dog in your avitar!

I agree, we’d love to have a goalie like Gibby, only a handful of those guys out there. Right now we are at 2.42 GF/GA and 2.82 GA/GA. Let’s assume that better goaltending gets us 15% better GA/GA...around 2.5 GF/GA (NHL best right now NSH 2.51)...my guess is we are right where the ducks are.

Ducks - 45 points (2.41 GF/G, 2.88 GA/G)
Canes - 39 points (2.51 GF/G, 2.82 GA/G)

45ish points good for 5th in Metro and still 5 games out of WC

If Flames had Gibson they would be 60+ points this year. Smith has single-handedly cost them at least 5 games this year
