What Stl payed for Schenn should have nothing to do with what the Bruins are paying for Schenn. That's just basic sunk cost.

With that said I don't think is far off from an actual trade. I don't want to pay this for Schenn, I don't think he's the player to go after, and I think he's gotten a great reputation simply by playing with better players. This is an overprice if you're asking me, so the B's will probably end up paying more smile

Well considering what they paid they obviously are going to try and get more or as much as what they paid for him... i do agree its an overpaiement but your also getting rid of that god awful contract that backes has...

His no-trade gets limited after this season, but I guess there's not even that many tanking teams just willing to take on 6m at that point. That's a tough nut to crack, but I'd rather pay more for Tarasenko or Schwartz if I have that option

your right at this point if your already paying premium why not go all in for the better player (tarasenko)

I’ve said this many times on here, but I’ll say it again. I have no problem with retaining salary and taking on cap-dumps, but Backes is a total dealbreaker. The Blues need to move forward with new voices and develop new leadership in their lockeroom. Every time a team tries to go back to something that worked in the past, it fails and blows up in their face. Bringing back Backes would be a super lame move and would hold the organization back.

The way im seeing it is that you need to send a contract the other way or like you said you retain salary (50%) in that case because boston has to resign so many players (Mcavoy,Carlo,Heinen,Donato...) even with 50% retained salary i dont think it would work. Thats why i sent backes "home" because st-louis is probably one of the only team willing to take him and that he would be willing to lift his NMC...
btw thanks for your input!

It would cost almost a first to dump backes contract, so a 21 y.o with 14 pts. In 30 ahl games and a 20 y.o with 8 pts in 26 ahl games for Schenn... what are bruins fans on these days

Bruins would have to decide if ridding themselves of Backes contract is worth trading those futures. Might be a fair deal. But the reality is even Schenn or anyone isn't getting the Bruins (or Leafs) out of the Atlantic division this year.
