A small mortgage

Created by: HabsRafiki
Team: 2018-19 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 5, 2019
Published: Jan. 5, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Montreal badly needs LD and Minnesota needs a new homegrown talent. Peca and Schlemko just fill roster spots for Wild for the balance of the season.

Bouwmeester has lost a few steps, but he's still an improvement on most of the LDs in Montreal. He also teamed well with Weber at the Sochi Olympics. They were younger then, but the gamble is worth taking. If it works, the Blues get two top-60 picks, and two potentially useful players.

Really? Poehling is about to be the MV Forward of the World Juniors! The last seven forwards to earn that distinction were Mittelstadt, Kaprisov, Puljujarvi, Domi, Forsberg, Nugent-Hopkins and Kuznetzov. That's pretty great company. What more would it take?

(I agree in one way, though, that were Poehling not a homegrown talent, Minnesota might want more. That said, if he were traded elsewhere and the fans heard they turned it down, it's not great PR)

Big disagree. Poehling is overrated, but Brodin is a #4 defenseman.

STLBlues17, what's your take on Bouwmeester? Is there anything left in the tank?

Yes, he was terrible at the beginning of the year but he was still recovering from hip surgery. It won’t be this expensive to get him.

Easy no from Minny. Replace Coyle with a 5th and they consider it.

Blues should take that and run.

I was unclear. Poehling is going to be good, I just Brodin has a higher trade value. Established top 4 guy on a good contract, just entering his prime.

Thanks, Really, I added Coyle just because there has been so much talk about him being on Montreal's radar.

On Bouwmeester, I just saw what "rentals" were going for last year and figured if he has his legs for the second half of the season, there'll likely be multiple bidders.

Fair enough. Minnie seems always to be deep at D, so thought it would be worth the move for both teams.

no sources for all that talk though just analyst's who speculate on the ''feel '' of different situations .

unless the GM sends a notice to other GM's like TOR did with Phaneuf ,COL did with Duchene , BUF did with Oreilly and MTL did with Alzner then its just non sense made up to create buzz .

if i had a dollar for every player that was on MTL's radar i'd have 10-15 grand by now in my pocket .

It could be, I just think there needs to be more heading to Minny. Maybe a pick.

Poehling's worth more then this package will land .

when trading a young player like this who's untested in the NHL but sure to be a NHL Regular for years to come you will not get a top 4 D period it ends the conversation before it starts .

personally i'd only trade Poehling if it got us MIN 1st round pick this year unprotected as being one of the Few players born , raised and Developed in MIN having him play his first NHL season there is not only a Marketing dream come true that will allow MIN to have a feel good story that the league can push but more importantly have a Possession Center that Koivu can mentor and pass the torch to as at 35+ Koivu is still top 15 in the NHL for faceoffs.

players like Coyle are easier Acquired at the Trade Deadline after MIN failed with its current core to make it past 8 games in the post season and begins its annual re-tooling .

Brodin isnt worth having at the Price he'll cost we could get Maatta much cheaper because PIT depth is weak due to mortgaging it for 2 straight cups and they are looking for picks to remedy that .
