These trades make Chiarelli look way too smart

Edmonton should hit up the phone come draft day and talk to whoever gets 1st overall. See if they can trade out McDavid for 3 1st round picks and land Hughes and enough capital to rebuild all over again because they have totally screwed this whole thing up already. Chiarelli has wrecked this team. Maybe they can get the same type of deal with whoever has the 2nd overall by trading Draisaitl,.
Either way this team looks like it's going to need 2-3 years to rebuild at this point.

Russell and Myers are roughly equal (both play about 20 minutes a game, Russell blocks shots and hits; Myers is better offensively). Keeping Russell saves 1.35M.

I can assure you that Hughes and Kaapo wouldn't be the problem with the team either. And you'd at least be able to quickly build a team around them with 3 first round picks every year for like 3 years.

At this rate they'll have lottery picks in the first round anyhow, they don't need to trade the best player in the world for 3 more. Those picks could be 20th overall, too, after this year.

you act like you are getting a bad player back in Hughes. It's a chance to reset the clock. Because they have completely messed this chance up.

Hughes isn't a bad player at all, but he's nowhere near the player McDavid is.

Again, the messed up part of the Oilers does not involve McDavid or Draisaitl. You are suggesting KEEPING the messed up parts, TRADING the good parts and somehow this will make things better?? It makes no sense.

No what I'm saying is get a generational player like McDavid, add a Kaapo + whoever they select first, and then add 6 more first round picks over 2 years and actually have a team capable of competing while still having players under control.

As is how many years will they waste with McDavid having no help till he either asks for a trade or his contract ends and he leaves out of that mess.
