Not sure what the Habs fan up there is thinking, but Habs Decline. We don't need to move out salary. We are not in win-now mode. Might as well hold onto his contract as the longer we hold on to it, the easier it becomes to move.

What's the max that you'd offer for us to take Alzner?

1-1.5 more. I doubt he'll get much more than Nylander and Pastrnak.

Well I would not offer a 1st, I would maybe throw a low end prospect in there for incentive, like Teasdale or Alain.

    Alzner, 2nd, Teasdale for Boucher

Dude, we'd do that even if you dropped the pick to a fourth or fifth rounder.

It s not just about Salary. MTL don't have enough space on their roster. Next year young players like Suzuki and upgrades (UFA players) will join the roster. And if we put him in the AHL he will take the place of a youngster. Plus paying 4M$ to a player to play 3 years in the AHL it's a little bit expensive for nothing

I agree that if we could get rid of him for nothing, do it. Giving away a 2nd round pick to dump a player that doesn't really affect anything is bad asset management. You can always just healthy scratch him in the AHL or NHL and nothing changes. Not sure what you mean by we don't have enough space on the roster and then follow it up with a Forward. Do you mean roster space? If we resign every single player on the roster, we would still have 3 roster spots open (This includes Niemi, Schlemko, Benn, Suzuki, Teasdale, Brooks + All of our other UFA's and RFA's). We have more than enough space to hold onto him.

I think the only way Boeser would accept $6 million is if it was a bridge contract, 2-3 years. Considering those are trending down and long term deals after ELC deals are trending up, I'd expect something like $7.5-8.5 million AAV over 8 years.

Paying teams to take a bad contract away is bad management. Sometimes you are forced to do it and there isn't much other option but its bad management nonetheless.

Habs have zero need do this. Unless however Molson doesn't want to pay that salary anymore, than there really is no other option.

50 roster spots taken? Who cares? Send Alzner to the AHL. Trade one of the endless no name prospects away.

There is a logical option for the Habs to solve any problem they may have from having to send Alzner down. Trading away a a good asset just because (I don't like seeing Alzner's name on the roster sheet) isn't a good solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

A smart GM has 3 options for Alzner:

Trade him for minimum zero value back. - Highly unlikely though.
Buyout - We could but there really isn't any need for it from a cap perspective.
AHL - Play him or scratch him, makes no difference.
