Description

*Some contracts signed in the summer of 2019. Such as Matthews and Marner meaning they have 2 and 6yrs left at this point (2021-2022).

The Matthews contract could go either way but a 4yr deal is very possible. That takes him up to the year before he becomes a free agent setting himself up for a massive payday that potentially can surpass McDavids contract.

Gardiner leaves via free agency.
Connor Brown gets traded the year prior for a pick and a prospect.
Marleau retires.

A 4 year deal for Matthews takes him directly to ufa, not the year before ufa. A 3 year deal would do that.

He’s at the point of a massive payday that could potentially surpass Mcdavid now. If they sign him to a 4 year deal, he’ll be playing for another team after that getting 16 a year

Are you sure? He's 22/23 at this point.. most UFA yrs start at 26/27. NHL players should go back to taking 4-6yr deals (after their elc) which increases their dollar value. Crosby did it, Malkin did it, etc. If he gets 16 a year, just know that the overall cap would go up as well.
