WOW! DeSmith just signed away a lot of money. Could have easily seen Hutton size contract for him in FA

Probably not, considering the quantity of goalies heading to free agency this offseason. Still though, I'm surprised he didn't at least test the waters.

5 STARS! In my threads, i signed him to the Dell contract of 1.9 millionm and i thought that may have been a bit low. So this is obviously quite team friendy. Great for the team

All these quality goalies with worse SV% then him? Could sign 4 goalies together with 920+ for cheaper then Bob who is at 906 and probably 2-3 for cheaper then Varlamov who is 908. Telling you he left a lot of money on the table if Koskinen gets 1 year 2.5M with Oilers with no NHL numbers then DeSmith can get that easily with his 926 sv%

No, this was not a good signing for DeSmith. You cant look at everything from the teams perspective. From players perspective this could turn out to be demoralizing. I think he deserved more, cause he is actually good solid goalie with a lot of space for improvement.

Steal of the century for Jim Rutherford in PIT! CAR or EDM (among others) would've paid big for this guy.

He should've signed a 1 year contract. I realize that all young players want security, but there's a risk/reward factor to all negotiations.

Just think about where PIT would be w/o DeSmith during the first 2 months of the season when Murray couldn't stop a beach ball.

Absolute TERRIFIC signing by Pittsburgh and their management! We lock down two high level NHL goalies for multiple KEY years while having a Grand Total of 5 million dollars being used in between the pipes. When you look at contracts like Price and Lundqvist etc this Pens Duo and Contract Duo blows off the roof in terms of great contracts. The timing of JR has been exceptional. Congratulations to Casey DeSmith because he has completely earned it in every way!!! Welcome to Pittsburgh for three years Casey D!!!

That’s why this is a great signing. They secured a solid 1 2 punch in net for a amazing price. They have two great goalies for the price of one.

All I can think about right now is that someone is going to offer Bob 7 years @ $8M+. I guess they won't learn their lesson from the Price contract. PIT was very smart here. I realize that PIT is better defensively than MTL, but seriously! Where do you think Price will be in 4-5 years? Where will Bob be when he's 36? Way too risky if you ask me. Draft and develop people. WASH, PIT, LAK, CHI, etc...

When you play for a winning franchise like Pens, many players care less for the money and more for winning Cups. He's not the first to do that and won't be the last in Sid's era.

Goaltending is the most unpredictable position. Idk why teams spend big, long money on goalies over 30

Most of my favourite goalies though have always been consistent. But I agree that it can be very unpredictable.

And another thing is that it seems like rookies aren't allowed to have cold streaks nowadays or they're busts even when a lot of them usually have limited play time. If a veteran like Lundqvist was on a cold streak nobody would bat an eye and just think he'll recover from this cold streak. But when a rookie does it, people go crazy and give up on them.
