Ottawa would ask for Bouchard to start for Stone. Not 2 overpaid bums, likely a bust and 1st rounder.

Stone is an upcoming UFA though. Manning and Spooner are for cap, and the 1st could be a lottery pick.

What do you think of the Tarasenlo deal?

That pick would likely be with protection and more than likely moved to 2020 when Oilers might be playoff team again.

Tarasenko deal is fine. RNH is really underrated centerman with great talent and many good things in his game. I think either another 2nd or 2020 1st would be needed if you want retention on Tarasenko as he is worth every penny of that 7.5mil contract despite current struggles.

I specifically wrote that the 1st is unprotected. Given the uncertainty of the pick and the possibility of it being top-10, I think Ottawa accepts.

Oh sorry I missed it. I mean they might bite into it if Stone would be not resigning. I just think they would ask for better salary players. What about Nurse, Puljujarvi and 1st for Stone?

I'll never understand why trading a first rounder from a middle level team for an uocoming UFA is a good idea. You improve your team long term by signing a uFA, and develop that first rounder

Think both OTT and STL would decline.

Biggest issue with that OTT move is that they're taking two deadweight UFAs that have several years contract left. Neither Spooner nor Manning have any value whatsoever. Puljujärvi is a risk of being a bust, he is currently worth around a 2nd rounder. And the likelihood of Oilers being a playoff team would rise rapidly if they acquire two of the TOP10 RWs of this league, making the first also a bit risky. All in all, I'm quite sure OTT could fetch a better deal than that.

STL are quite stacked on centers, RNH wouldn't bring anything too special to the table. Also I think they could get more value from him.

He has looked right coming of surgery. I wouldn't even make the trade.

Is this meant to be a joke? No way in the world any pure rental gets you that return.

That value would be for Stone resigned.

The trade above clearly states that Stone is unsigned. Sign and trade for pending UFA's never happens anyway.

Stone and Tarasenko are pretty good. They might help the Oilers score more goals. That's something they've gotten worse at, each of the last two offseasons, sliding from 2.96 goals/game down to 2.77 this year, a loss of .22 goals per game, so scoring more goals could be a good idea for the Oilers.

On the other hand, their defense took a bigger step back, the summer before last, from 2.95 goals against per game, up to 3.2 goals against per game last year, a gain of .25 goals against per game, and hasn't recovered at all. http://www.nhl.com/stats/team?reportType=season&seasonFrom=20152016&seasonTo=20182019&gameType=2&playerPlayedFor=team.22&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&sort=goalsAgainstPerGame

Stone's a good two-way player, and should be a bigger priority than Tarasenko.

I've also dreamed up a random idea I posted yesterday of Niskanen for Larsson plus Brodziak. Niskanen is playing 8% tougher zone starts than Larsson this year, with a better plus/minus. He has almost as many points as Larsson and Brodziak together, and would be Edmonton's second-best power play point option behind the oft-injured Klefbom. He's older than Larsson at 31, but Brodziak's almost 35. I think the Caps, who hardly bother playing Niskanen on power play behind Carlson, are better off with a shutdown guy who is just a shutdown guy and isn't paid to be a #1, while the Oilers are better with a two-way #1RHD. Agree? Disagree? Counteroffer?
