Toronto is not willing to take on weber’s contract. They don’t need center more depth. They don’t need another left defensemen. They are not willing to trade nylander. They won’t trade kadri or sandin away unless it’s really worth there while. This trade heavily favors montreal.

And they still have trouble getting under the cap. Not my fault they went hard after Tavares without getting a more reliable defencemen

Dream on. Your team is massively flawed, crippled by big contracts to guys who have never won anything, while being unbalanced between offence and defence.

If you don't trade Nylander, you lose two of your 3 experienced D anyway, and you can't give competitive salaries to all of Matthews, Marner, Kapanen and Johnsson.

Drop Sandin and Kadri from the trade and it’s still terrible for Toronto without 50% retention from Montreal. Even then...iffy.

Maybe you could ask the league for an exception from the salary cap rules in exchange for Toronto continuing to host NHL Operations.
