I think with the Pens now signing Desmith to 3yr ext. you have to trade Jarry due to the one way contract next year. So each trade complements the other.

Trade one gives you more grit and winger depth with Ferhland which this trade is now possible due to being able to add Jarry to the trade.
Trade two rids you of Derrick Brassard who is a good player but just hasn't clicked in Pitt. (It happens). So with Brassard you make up for losing Oleksiak in the Ferhland trade and Maatta in the Coyle deal.
Trade three is the big one which replaces Brassard and adds a bit more grit/dynamic to your third line.

I'm not sure if these are the exact teams that will be involved but I would suspect GMJR will look to trade what he has a lot of (D Men) for a more solid center depth. I also think though with the excess goalie depth now he can make up for trading some D depth for another lesser expensive D. It'll be interesting.

I think they're fine not assuming they would make all 3!

Ferland is a great forward in that he has the physical element that not a lot of Pens forwards have, I just don't see a situation in which they can resign him so I am always sketched trading away prospects/picks for rentals. I think he would be a great winger for Geno and can also allow Simon to play on the 4th line with ZAR/Sheahan which could be dangerous. I think it will cost a lot to get him since there seems to be a few teams interested, but this is a fair deal in terms of Jarry's value.

Brassard has been fine IMO, I know he has had much better results & production with NYR and OTT, but he is playing a different role now and is still outperforming Bonino. I think he can play better and make less mistakes, but that can be said about most players time and time. Saying that, I am sure Colorado would be interested. They have a lot of young guys still, and Zadarov is a BODY. I would like him, just don't know what his AAV would be next year. If they do happen to ship Maatta, I think they can find a way to make it work. Not sure if COL is as interested though.

I have always been a Maatta fan and think he rarely gets the credit he deserves, but I also understand the position he is in. He is not as fast as a lot of the young players in the NHL, and that can be an issue moving forward. Still think he is a solid 4-d and I think they will hurt for awhile without him, but I would do this trade every day of the week if we were in need of a 3C. Coyle is a stud and would be even better playing with Pearson & Kessel.

I don't see why Carolina needs another LHD and a prospect goalie when they have prospect goalies. They are gonna want a young forward and pick.

Trading Brassard for a big physical defenseman that you already have in Oleksiak and oleksiaks cap hit is much much better. Zadarov isn't gonna be cheap to resign.

The Coyle trade is a good one. Minny would have to flip one of their defensman in a separate trade as they already have Brodin and Suter on the left.
