and not too mention Toronto would trade Brown and a 2nd rounder for 1.5M in cap retention only. Its hardly worth it.

Nope. You may be thinking of the Brassard trade but Brassard wasn't traded back to Ottawa in this case.

Brown also makes 2.1 so its a bit of cap space.

So simply trade him for a draft pick back, its not like he is a bad player.... Zaitzev isn't that bad either but more than likely TO would need to eat a bit of his salary to move him if they really needed to.

The Caps traded Orpik to the Avs so they could buy him out and Orpik could re-sign in Washington for cheaper.

The NHL wasn't a fan of it and warned both teams.

Pretty sure a played can't be traded back to a team within 30 or 60 days or something along those lines.
