SO, lets say the media is to be believed here and Edmonton is desperate. Lets say Toronto can sell Nylander on them for a premium COULD Toronto get this package, and if so could Toronto than flip this package for a top defense man?

Why sell so low on Nylander when you could have gotten a king's ransom for him before he signed his deal? I also don't think Montour for Poolparty and a late 1st would go through either.

That would be absolutely savage if Dubas just casts Nylander off to hell

Leafs could do better than that for Nylander. Ducks may get more value than that for Montour as well, but the value is closer. Depends how high you are on JP's ceiling as he matures.

Nylander's trade value should be higher than Duchene in fall 2017 when he was moved. 5 prime years at an AAV of $7.0M may turn out to be a bargain for Nylander if he becomes a 1-2 centre on another team.

Oilers would be crazy to move their 1st rounder, they have too many holes to patch and not enough assets or cap space to fix it in short term. They should keep drafting high for a couple years, eventually they can dump some of the ugly contracts and get some cap flexibility.

And the Oilers should make no more moves with current GM pulling the strings...

With a 10+ mil cap number this year, Nylander is untradeable.

It really could only happen in the summer. I don't think the Oilers or the Ducks can take the cap hit differential. Ducks don't like the deal....A late 20s picks and a probable non NHLer.

Alright but taking away the trades, do you think it would be smart for Toronto to pounce and try to make something work? I bet you Kappi could play with McDavid.

Ducks and Oilers would have cap issues with Nylander.

To get Montour you would need to include the Edmonton 1st draft rather than the Toronto pick.

If Nylander is traded in won't be until after the July 1 2019 signing bonus is paid

It isn't just the media -- Edmonton needs forwards, plural, as anyone can tell you. They only have four guys who can play the position now, and that may be generous to Chiasson. Anaheim and Toronto both have several forwards that might be included in a multi-player deal, but one player, even a star like Nylander, won't get them to the next level. They need depth. Edmonton may be reduced to trading Klefbom for a couple of wings plus a first-rounder.
