COL trade

Description
Zadorov, 23 years old, for Armia ,25 years old, are the center pieces of this deal. Both picked 16th overall their respective draft year. Zadorov currently playing bottom pairing RD for COL, but has high potential. Armia a solidified middle 6 forward, plays in all situations. Both will be RFAs this offseason needing new contracts. Due to 2 year differential in age, adding a 2nd rd pick to the deal. and exchanging two current healthy scratch players, Hudon being 4 years younger with higher potential than Bourque.

COL have been looking for more depth (but not 4th liners), and guys that would fit with their young core. Armia , and Hudon by extension, checks off those needs. Habs need to bolster their LD with more young talent, so they take a chance with Zadorov who is still young and a fresh start could do some good.

I also would really like the idea of both Zadorov and Weber as a "end of game" shut down pairing or PK pairing. not many will want to dump the puck in either corner lol

No from MTL. Don’t trade a 2rd pick for Zadorov. Just wait until Romanov arrive with the club

I personally would of swapped it for a 3rd rd pick, but since this is ACGM, I bumped it up to a 2nd to try and avoid some pushback lol probably still won't work though.

and I know Romanov had an amazing WJ tournament, but It'd be foolish for the Habs to put all their hypothetical eggs in a 18 year old Dman and think that LD is fixed. Depth on LD is still horrible with young prospects. Literally no one after Mete and Romanov worth mentioning. Adding Zadorov wouldn't hurt Romanov coming over at all.

Would you be willing to send Lehkonen instead of Armia? They have very similar numbers but Lehkonen closer in age to Zadorov. Maybe change the pick to a later round as well because of this also?

I wouldn't do Lehkonen for Zadorov 1v1 I personally see Lehky as a top 6 winger, he's really the Habs best defensive forward. I get why some don't think he's top 6, he does have inconsistency issues with goal scoring, but the potential is there. So I have no interest in moving him anytime soon. Armia is more of a sure thing as a middle 6 guy, can play on the 2nd line, but is more of a 3rd liner. he's also a two-way guy, but I would put him below Lehkonen in terms of potential, which is why I added the 2nd, and another younger player in need of a change in Hudon, and took back what is basically a roster dump in Bourque

From the look of things currently, Habs wont be getting a top 15 pick. Unless of a collapse in the last 25 or so games, but with Price rebounding from his start of the season slump, I don't see it.

It's a shame, lots of top LD prospects in that top 15 range...

There are only 2 maybe 3 Dmen in the top 15 on most draft rankings.

Too many people on this forum expect 18, 19, 20 yr old prospects to be immediate impact players. The majority of players take much longer to be effective NHLers. Theres always hope that Ramanov can play and be useful soon but best case scenerio he is likely still 2 yrs away. Even more likely that he is closer to 4-5 yrs from being a legiitimate NHL defensemen. That's a long time to just wait it out and hope.

That's kind of my point, sorry if I wasn't clear, now that I reread my post i does look like i'm saying there's a ton lol. But especially when it comes to Elite Dman prospects, there's usually only a handful every draft then it tapers off drastically. and those elite guys usually get picked in the top 15.

Dmen Bowen Byram, Cam York, Philip Broberg are definitely the big 3 LD guys of the next draft. No way Habs get any one of them if they make the playoffs.

exactly, which is why I'm also opposed to so many on here ready to trade Danault because Poehling and Suzuki "are ready" and haven't even played a pro game yet. Are they top prospects? yes. Will they make the roster next year? I think so! Should we trade Danault because of that? nope, not even close.
