Tooling around for next years team scary

Created by: joshelkin
Team: 2019-20 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 16, 2019
Published: Jan. 16, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Next season (2020-21):
1) induce Seattle to take on Ladd (who no longer has NMC protection) for picks/prospects. This move also frees up a spot for Wahlstrom if he's ready

2) Possssssibly buy out Boychuk to make room for Dobson. I imagine nobody will take on his contract and the Isles won't have the right picks/prospects to convince a team since they just gave some to Seattle.

3) With Greiss off the books after the season (and Lehner only having 2 years left) the 2020-21 season is the perfect time for Sorokin to come over. He can adjust to the NHL game behind/with Lehner and form a nice tandem. Sorokin will likely take over the 1A spot very quickly.

4) When Sorokin is officially here, look to trade Linus Soderstrom in a package for a defenseman. I don't think Soderstrom needs (or wants) to be stuck behind Sorokin. Linus is a very capable goaltender who hopefully has a bright career ahead.

5) Obviously lock up the key RFA's (Barzy/Pulock) and with the aforementioned money coming off the books, plus expiring contracts and a cap increase this is more than doable.

Pretty sure I implied that in my notes. He's gone at the end of next year and free up the space

Why Nelson for 5 million if you are getting Duchene. Not necessary. Have Koivula in AHL for third line center.
and also I think Lee takes "hometown discount" and stays for 5 million over 5 years. Why no trade of eberle

I don't think Lee will take that deep of a discount. Though I'd love it. And I paid Brock to have legit depth down the middle. Not sure Koivula will be the guy but it's certainly a thought. Eberle could have been traded at the deadline prior. Didn't really consider it

His NMC goes to a limited NTC so he'll still have a say. We'd have to hope that he would be ok with going to Seattle.
