Duchene would be great for this year but if the jets were to trade for a 2C, they would get someone that they can resign....ie Nelson, Brassard, Staal.

IMO, Duchene is also too costly for us.

Duchene would be an amazing addition to Winnipeg for the playoff push. Honestly, I am going to disagree with the above comments...I don't think we should be going after a guy that we can re-sign. We have our own players that are priority, and most that will command big contracts. Only thing is yes, Duchene is going to take a lot to acquire, and I don't know if Winnipeg should/would give up that price. It would be worth it if we win it all...but you have to weigh the pros and cons.

It will be interesting to see what the contenders will be willing to pay for Duchene at the deadline. Historically, a first and a prospect gets it done. Losing Petan doesn't worry me but Appleton will be a good NHL player. I think the Jets see Roslovic as their longer-term 2C but this isn't the season for that pressure yet. With Lowry a lock for 3C and Little signed long term, Appleton might get stuck (like Petan and Dano) behind a deep forward pool. Seems like a good time to rent a #1 centre to create two lethal scoring lines.

Do you think that the price I've suggested is worth the rental? Higher than traditional rentals for sure. Might give Ottawa the chance to save face on giving up what looks like a high lottery pick to get Duchene in the first place.

I think value wise this is almost spot on and will be what it takes to acquire Duchene. I am 50/50, because don't get me wrong I would love to have Duchene, and think that it could be worth it. I just hate that it is going to take such a high price haha.

Chevy doesn't make many gaffs, but I do think that we missed a window of opportunity to get value for Petan and Dano. I see Appleton as a guy that would be a top 9 player on most teams in the NHL in the next two years, just not the Jets. If the Jets hold on to him for another couple years with limited bottom 6 action, he might get lost to waivers the way Dano was.

the problem is WGP is Perrault and Little, if they can get rid of both they can resign Duch at 8.5m and have 1m left over, Perrault have a 5 team no trade list, so there is chance OTT might not be on it, Little tho has a 14 team no trade list. IF both dont pick OTT as no go, then trade both to OTT along with Stanley and Vesaleinen and 1st and 2nd. Let Myers walk and sign Trouba. trade lowry and put Roslovic as 3c, WPG top 2 line would be among if not the best in the league.

Ehlers/Sheiffley/Wheeler
Connor/Duchene/Laine

There will be a bidding war for Duchene, he is no ordinary rental, he is a 1C.
