Can't even begin to explain how undervalued the Colorado trade is. Nemeth is a rental and a UFA, his value is zilch to a non playoff team. Gus has more value with another year on his contract and half the cap hit. 1 for 1 Nemeth is a better player but not when you consider he's a UFA rental and twice the price of Gus. I would rather have Gus comparatively.
Leave Kunitz out...he's a throw away and has little value.
We are down to
Kane = 1st round pick (top 5), Makar and Jost.
Kane was 1st OA pick, Makar #10 OA and Jost #4 OA.
Makar and Jost both are so far showing nowhere near the potential of being a elite, Kane being one of the top 50 greatest players of all time.
The Blackhawks Defensive prospect pool is deep. Boqvist, Jokiharju, Beaudin, Mitchell, Krys, Carlsson. That is an extremely solid group of prospects for years to come. Will Makar be better then Boqvist or Jokiharju....hard to say at this point but Hawks already have solidified their top 2 guys of the future in those two and both are RHD guys....we don't need another future first line RHD guy. That right there, not to other teams but to the Hawks, decreases Makar's value quite a bit thus lessening his value in this trade to the Blackhawks.
Now we are down to Jost, who don't get me wrong, certainly has a bright future but highly unlikely he is a generational elite talent and so far has not been able to step into the league his rookie season and be a difference maker unlike most generational or elite level talents. Every year there are 1 or 2 players in the draft that they talk about in the same light as a Kane or Matthews or McDavid, Jost is and was not one of those. Jost and a top 5 draft pick is not nearly enough for Kane. Makar, Jost and a top 5 pick is not enough for Kane.
Keep this in mind...Kane is playing the best year of his career. He is top 10 in both goals and assists and overall points....how many players rank like that against the league...2 or 3? Not even Ovy does that. I'm sorry, but I just don't bite on this trade...you don't take a top 10 player and arguably top 5 player and trade him for a top 5 pick and two 1st round draft picks who are a gamble to whether they are able to play 1st line minutes.
The MTL trade is not close. Keith is certainly worth a 1st round pick and possibly more without salary retained. Anisimov is worth more then Peca hands down it's not even close. Anisimov is worth a 2nd rounder at the TDL all day long and Peca is not. I get that Peca is a lot cheaper and younger but he's never been a 20+ goal scorer and 30+ point producer like AA is basically every year.
Sorry, like the creative thinking but the values just aren't there for me.
