It's an attractive way to buy picks (taking on salary for picks). 4.5M$ of Lucic for 5 yrs... that's a long time for a 1st rd pick and a 2nd rd pick. If both are 2019 picks (giving MTL 4 picks in the first 2 rounds), then it becomes tempting... Especially when Pierre McGuire claims it's a deep draft.

Ok then the 2 picks in 2019. Lucic could play a role for a couple of season then the option of buying him out down the road is still option. This is one way of getting draft picks in order to built via the draft. If MTL as the intention to sign UFAS then this is not a good option.
