Nylander is underperforming, but I am almost certain he’ll bounce back. Vrana-Kuz-Nylander sounds like a recipe for domination. Jumble up that top 9 however you want and it’s dangerous.

Caps have RHD to replace Nisk after this season (Hobbs, Lewington, Williams). We also have a good bunch of LHD, so it’s not the end of the world if we need Djoos or Orlov or Siegenthaler to swap to the right side since they’ve all done it before effectively. We have plenty of young D.

Toronto gets rid of a guy who isn’t producing when they have someone who can replace his former production (Kapanen), and they fill the RHD hole they had with Niskanen. They also get Burakovsky (a young and brutally slumping middle 6 winger), a young LHD who will be NHL ready within a year, and a late first round pick (unless the caps keep losing. We’ll assume it’s lottery protected).

I could see the leafs wanting more, but I think this offer is decently fair considering nylander’s down season he’s been having thus far.
