True, but $5.4M is still a decent cap hit. AND it's not like Aho is going anywhere. Keep those two together and it'll all work out for CAR.

Are the Canes’ ownership on vacation and unreachable and the GM is having fun while the proverbial parents are away? Either that or we’re witness to a significant shift in spending habits from what has been a Cap Floor team for the past decade. First the Neidereiter trade, now this signing. Interesting changes afoot in the Commonwealth.

Good value and term. A great player with a nice bit of youth and skill, expecting 6 million at least.

Great value for him. He's a fantastic fit into what they're building in Carolina, and it's all of a sudden really exciting. Having TT locked up and this contract does a lot for them. They've got some of their best players signed for great value with term (Teravainen, Pesce, Slaavin, etc.) and now have more than enough money to keep Aho and Svechnikov long term, as well as going out and getting a big name weapon in free agency (I personally think Matt Duchene would be an amazing fit for them).

Kyle Turris signed w/ NSH for $6M AAV! Who'd you rather have? A 29 year old who's often injured and not putting up good numbers despite playing for a great team, or a 24 year old capable of putting up 60+ points on a consistent basis on a mediocre team? This was an excellent extension for CAR at a great value. A+

I agree 100%. They still need a top Center and another scoring Winger in order to be legit contenders. And their goaltending situation is among the league's worst, but they do have tons of cap space and some excellent young foundational pieces from which to build on. There's a lot to be positive about in CAR.

How can you not be happy with this? The dude puts up 60+ points a season and while is accused of being an Aho product, really does pull Aho along sometimes.... see the Whalers night game vs Boston, where both had 4 points and Aho had a horrible game....
