Team: 2018-19 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 16, 2019
Published: Jan. 21, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
PHI
  1. Donato, Ryan
  2. Frederic, Trent
  3. 2019 1st round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Modeled after the Rick Nash deal last year, underperforming but hopeful roster player + good prospect + 1st round pick for rental PWF. Figuring it will be a better return than nash since Simmonds is having a better season and is younger, better short term cap hit too.

Nooooo. Huge overpayment. That is far more than was given for Nash which was a first, a prospect, and 2 cap dumps.

I would not give more than a pair of 2nds for him straight up. He will get more. Not worth it though.

Maybe if they included Laughton i would consider it.

It's tough to call spooner a cap dump when he was on a bridge-like deal and had 25 pts in 39 games at the tme of the trade. The cap dumps also had to be included due to Nash's high cap hit.

I'd tend to agree that the overall price isn't worth paying for a few months of Simmonds, but there's been lots of smoke from "hockey experts" pointing to simmonds making the move up the east coast. I was aiming more at trying to guess what the final pricepoint of simmonds would get to.

Of note a late 1st isn't of tremendous face value either, there's just the opportunity to decide the value you get out of the pick at the draft. Pick could turn into the next waiver wire player 5 years down the road or a legitimate superstar like Pasta, Giroux, Kuznetsov etc.

They tried trading Spooner for a year and a half prior to that and could get next to nothing for him. He was dumped in that deal.

There’s lots of speculation about lots of people. Means little. Kefbom, Nuge, Panarin were hot rumors in the offseason. Nothing came if it. Schenn was the hot topic up til last week. Simmonds makes sense for Bruins, their asking price does not. 2nd and one of those pieces is fine. They want the 1st they can add their 2nd.

Time to stop mismanaging assets for short term leases. Not just Bruins but league wide.
