I say yes to the Mojo reunion. Don’t get rid of Jaskin though! He’s been solid for us. Get Barber out of there and throw Jaskin back on the 4th line. 23-26-72 would be a nice 4th line again. Or throw 18 at center instead. Whatever you like. Just keep Jaskin for the playoffs. I have a feeling he’ll have a DSP-esque performance in the postseason if given the opportunity.

I really would be okay trading Jaskin. He's tough and he flies all over the ice, but DSP's clutch scoring makes him a little more valuable to me.

What if the Devils threw in Lovejoy too and retained salary on both; would that be enough for Burakovsky + Siegenthaler? Devils need help on the left hand side for defense, been playing 36 year Greene for 21 minutes a game.

Lovejoy is one of four or five good rental options at RHD that I think Washington should consider, but to move a waiver-exempt RFA defenseman like Siegenthaler, I think the Caps would probably want to get Mueller back, to try to play a similar role this year, and then possibly keep it, making Bowey tradable at the draft, if Djoos is healthy. Discount Lovejoy might be worth a decent prospect like Geisser?

I actually really like this trade for both teams. I don't think Washington could re-sign him, but it would be easy to buy low on him and I think Burakovsky is a good fit on New Jersey

For whatever it's worth, a different Devils fan thinks Burakovsky and a 3rd are worth Johansson (50%), Mueller, Lappin, and a 2nd. https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/984723

Calgary fans have posted that he's worth Sam Bennett.

Vancouver fans offer Goldobin, plus.

Dallas fans offer Nichushkin, plus.

Those are all 22-23 year old 1st round picks, coming up on RFA negotiations that should come out cheaper than Burakovsky's. I don't think the Caps particularly care about NJ's 2nd round pick if they're focused on a window of this year and next year, but if any of the above fan posts reflect what actual teams are thinking.... then I don't think a discount rental of just Marcus Johansson is going to be the offer that gets Burakovsky. A half price rental of MoJo could absolutely get Siegenthaler, though. Or after Burakovsky is traded for Bennett, maybe Siegenthaler goes for Mueller?

slightly over the cap and there's sadly no way mojo could be resigned, but this looks good for both sides.

To be honest the main reason I thought Siegenthaler would be a good fit was that he could play with Mueller this/next year; however this is based purely on the fact that they both are Swiss.

Lol. What a coincidence. So is Geisser.

Here's a different way I could see the Devils getting Siegenthaler: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/992639

Orpik's contract is a 1M hit and expires this year. Why LTIR him? That makes no sense. All we have to do is relegate Barber (not sure why he got brought up here in the first place) and put Stephenson, DSP, or Dowd on that line.

Last year's deadline, at 5.5M? Sure.

Orpik's back on a 1M cap hit now, and I think he actually might be injured, but he's still good enough positionally that they need him to play.

The Caps could have depth on defense and be under the cap if, as a Devils fan proposed last week, Burakovsky brought back Johansson at 50% (2.29M, about), plus Mirco Mueller. Washington can send Siegenthaler back to Hershey, and they end up with four NHL-capable defensemen on each side, including three a side who can play 18 minutes. That's a deal that brings Burakovsky to NJ.

I could see the Caps adding a couple decent prospects to that, like: Tyler Lewington and Mason Mitchell? I don't think giving up a 23 year old RFA for a 28 year old UFA who is only a tiny bit better right now makes much sense.
