Yeah, I wouldn't expect any big moves from Toronto. Just Johnsson and Gardiner, but not bringing in anyone big. Based off the players that Dubas seems to be interested in, they would need to give a lot to get them

Now, I heard that KD is not opposed to trading his 1st this year a Liljegren, so maybe they make a push for Pieterangelo, Larsson, Keith, Bouwmeester or Pesce. Hell, even Muzzin's and Gudas' names have popped up as players of interest for Toronto so you never know

Nope, it makes perfect sense to me. I will be honest I’ve always been high on kappy but I think if any forward has to be moved it will be nylander. Not because I don’t think he will turn it around or isn’t a great player I just think kappy is more bang for the buck and does the things that we need from our 2nd tier guys. We also don’t know his ceiling, would really suck to trade away kappy and he turns out to be better than willie. The wrsinally I think it is dubas’s Plan to build Defense from within and keep all the talent and futures that he can.

I’m saying he said he wants to keep his core and that includes Nylander. That’s what I mean. I don’t mind Kap. If he building Defense from within that means it be at least 2 years of no dman unless he just gets Han’s like to fill the gap

I wouldn’t say so, will have to see what his moves are. To be honest even no move at all isn’t a bad thing.

If he doesn’t Mathews signed before the trade deadline he won’t make any moves. He can’t afford not being able to fit players under the cap next year. Once again he said he does t want rental.

Players can be traded. He can certainly take on good contracts or rentals at TDL. I did not hear anything about no rentals, to me it may be a smart idea. Some cheap depth rentals would be okay.

He is going to sign Matthews by the deadline, heard they made hella progress over the last 3 days or so. Its just a matter of salary at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if KD front-loaded Matthews contract, so when his contract is up and they have more guys in around 4-5 years they can sign them. I would not expect more than 10.5 for Matthews, considering past injuries and a hometown discount

No Im saying they sign him to an 8 year deal, while front loading all the money. So they would pay him 15 million for the first 5 years, then 4 million year 6, then 3 million years 7 and 8, giving them room for rookie resignings

He will sign 8, that is certain. I think he wants around 12 and KD wants to be frugal and sign him to 9.5 to 10.5 range

The same thing you do when a player gets hurt in the first minute of the first period in a game. If the rumours are true that they all want more ice time we’ll you got it.

yeah that might work for 1 game, but it's going to get old fast. Especially when the PK guys get hurt and your top players have to go out there and block shots.

Marner already out there kill penalties. Once they are on the IR you can call them up the Marlies arent that far away and you have days between games. It’s not impossible to do and if they players miss enough time you can then bring up an extra body

First let me say how dumb it is for Marner to be on the PK. Second, the first time one of your top centers or Marner gets his ankle shattered on a shot block the whole fan base will hang you outside the stadium.

Guys on IR count against the cap. Guys on LTIR don't. Placing a guy on IR simply gives teams an extra roster spot they can use.

You can't have a roster of 18 skaters and 2 goalies with no cap space unless you're planning on double shifting guys on purpose.

The leafs get away with less than 3 guys in the press box sometimes because the marlies are down the street and it makes it logistically feasible to call a guy up at the last second (assuming both teams are at home).

Also...just my opinion...

But GM's kind of spout off around this time of year about which guys 'aren't available'. I'm sure if the right trade presented itself, KD would include Kapanen and/or Sandin...but he's simply sending a message to other GM's that those guys are valued extremely highly by the leafs and so they should be prepared to value them at that same level if they want to include them in trade discussions.

Not saying other GM's buy into that...just that I don't think we can close the door on the possibility that either guy could still be included in a trade.
