If Jensen is a competent NHLer, he gets more than 2m as UFA. Zaitsev, I think he is a difficult trade without money being sent back to the Leafs. Still I think Nylander who will paid 24m for 5 years after July 1st...less than 5m a season is an attractive trade for some team during the summer,

I could see someone overvaluing Zaitsev. Jensen I guess could make a bit more. Hard to say with him. Dubas did promise Nylalnder he would not trade him.

If it's not in a contract, it's just business at the end of the day. It's rather unfortunate that Marleau is such a heavy cap hit.

Actually I have seen many Dubas press conferences. He is "hazy" in what he says. Plus, only a fool believes what a player/coach/executive says publicly about trades or contracts. What else would Dubas say publicly? "With our expected cap, one of our top forwards is going to have to be traded." What these people say if for public consumption, mostly to take the pressure off the player and team so there is less discussion about trades or cap problems.

I really like Jensen as a "Hainsey replacement" not a top pairing guy on many teams, but the leafs can make use of his good skating and defensive play. Babcock seems to like these polar pairings where one guy (Rielly) does his thing all over the ice and his partner (Hainsey) allows him to do this due to his stability and reliable defence.

Also Dubas said he didn't plan on trading Nylander aka if there was no cap we would surely keep you. If Matthews & Marner cost more than expected or a good trade comes to Dubas, He may have no choice to trade him (or someone else), Obviously Dubas will prioritize the team over this false promise

I dont think kapanen is gonna accept 3m. He's getting paid at least 4.5 or 5.

Agree with you on Jensen. Question is can the Leafs outbid other teams to get Jensen or have enough "cache" to persuade him to be a Leaf. Leafs could probably live with Zaitsev. Ozzie and Jensen on the right side next year. You and I might be one few to think "The Leafs" take priority over a "false promise". Hell, Nylander must know he is a very likely trade candidate due to the structure of his contract and the Leafs cap situation.

Will be interesting to see who he'd get traded for.

More realistic than some I’ve seen, but not sure I’d say realistic
