Saves you 2.375 million next year so I think it is still worth it.
New GM would want to send a message.
More cap space in Year 2 when it costs you 5.625 (Spooner and Manning off the books then)

For the buyout penalty . Would it just be worth to retain 2.5 million!? BC how long would it be for ! 10 years ?! I'd rather free up 3.5 million it through that way. I don't know, just this whole situation just sucks

Yeah but it saves you almost nothing the next year. The cap hit goes up to 5.625 million, then 4.125 million, then back up to 5.625 million. How on earth is it ever going to be worth it to buy him out. The contract was designed to be buyout proof.
